Hey! It's supposed to make you tear!concern2:
Sentimental fool,
I am one too.
for I whose school,
Neither elite nor known to you,
Has seized to exist
without any ceremony or a note in the news.
I envy you - you still have your school.
You are humorous

There are Catholic schools, Christian schools, Buddhist schools. And these impart religious values to the children which some parents do look for in their choice of school.[/quote]Yes, I will have to agree that for catholic, christian schools, they should give priority to those of the some religion as parents will want schools to impact religious values to their children.

She added that the scheme aims to allocate school places according to a set of fair and transparent criteria that are in the child's educational interests.
There are six phases in the registration process, with siblings of children already in a school getting top priority. Next come the children of alumni, parent volunteers or those with church or clan connections.
What has church or clan connections anything to do with the child's educational interests??????!!
Should be removed totally!
PVs.. to some extend.. could be retained.. As parents who are active in the school understand the school system better.
And, as they contribute to the school (in terms of time and effort), it is fair that some priority be given.
This is meritocracy.. unlike connections.. -

Sorry I don't have ST with me. What is the scope of this MOE initiative? Is it just for P1 registration? What about Sec sch enrolment, in particular the issue of affiliation between Pri and Sec schools? Think someone earlier mentioned this briefly.
Reason I'm saying this is that if we find alumni priority in P1 registration undesired (since it is based on past connections), then surely judging by the same yardstick, we cannot say that this Pri-to-Sec affiliation is desired as it is also based on the same criterion of past relationship.
Just Primary School -

...not your school... People with alumni just enjoy old ties, not brands.

And such sentimentality should trump over the outrage of frustrated parents who have no recourse to popular schools located next door to them, by dint of the fact that they were not alumni? It's very sentimental when you see the grandfathers walking with their grandsons to the same school which they attended some decades ago. You can see the pride in their eyes. Really. Imagine this affiliation link taken away from these folks. My family has no such affiliation links but these are real people I see.

It may sound \"elitist\" or \"clubby\", but if it were your child, you may want the same positive experience. Carrying on a tradition. Anyway, most of these old schools with long history and huge alumni may be popular schools, but just not exactly the TOP schools in PSLE results. So I don't see the issue?
I'm not saying it is, but you can see how this comes across as being 'elitist' or 'clubby', much to the chagrin of those on the outside looking in. But I get your point, it is valid. So perhaps a restriction on the percentage (which should be small) for alumni, and to ballot it the applications exceed for that phase, and the rest for 2B/C.Musings:
Having come from a school with strong traditions (though my kids couldnt take advantage of that priority - wrong gender!), I would hate for those traditions, sense of shared identity be eroded. I had always longed to be able to tell my kids \"mummy and friends planted that tree in school over there, your teacher was also mummy's teacher...\" but that was not meant to be. -
phtthp:
Well, I certainly hope that my youngest one can still get into his elder brothers' primary school when his time comes even though the younger of his elder brothers will already be in Sec 4 by then!!! We really don't want to have to ballot all over AGAIN!!! That would truly be unfair. Better if they put \"siblings of former students\" in Sibling Phase, and I'd be super happy.many of those under 2A will be greatly affected!
those with siblings depend on the elder child enter P1 2013, 2014 or P1 2015 - to bring in their younger siblings into same school, are greatly hit.
if their elder child can't go in because of changes to 2A, the younger sibling also cannot enter the same school too.
all those entering P1 2014, 2015 ... better start planning alternative backup plans, if hit by 2A changes.
property and rental will sure go up like crazy, around the schools ! :siao:
can anyone recall -
once MOE announce start consider something, how long did they take to implement & swing the plan into action ? eg: PV plan last time ? -
phankao:
But BEFORE entering the school, they have NO concept of the tradition! Can they not have the same positive experience in a DIFFERENT school? Its us adults transferring our sentiments onto the child, its our own vanity, if I may say so.
And as I said, how about the people on the outside looking in? They don't have the right to have a shot at this 'positive experience', which has benefited your line for 1 generation (you), and perhaps should pass on to someone else?
