MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni
-
3Boys:
Well, if I am in such a situation, I would like that. School no longer exists. For dh, his school is in M'sia. So this situation doesn't apply. We balloted for our kids to get into Pri schools here.
But BEFORE entering the school, they have NO concept of the tradition! Can they not have the same positive experience in a DIFFERENT school? Its us adults transferring our sentiments onto the child, its our own vanity, if I may say so.phankao:
It may sound \"elitist\" or \"clubby\", but if it were your child, you may want the same positive experience. Carrying on a tradition. Anyway, most of these old schools with long history and huge alumni may be popular schools, but just not exactly the TOP schools in PSLE results. So I don't see the issue?
And as I said, how about the people on the outside looking in? They don't have the right to have a shot at this 'positive experience', which has benefited your line for 1 generation (you), and perhaps should pass on to someone else?
My dh holds a Blue IC. But he has been here for 35 years, most of the years as a PR. He says his bosses love that he does not take maternity leave and doesn't take leave for NS or reservist ... sigh. -
3Boys:
Apples vs orange lah. Alumni issue is separate from the Singapore vs PR issue. And, nobody says not gvg PR places in our Pri sch juz that Singaporeans (true blue) should all have much much more priority into schools than them
And such sentimentality should trump over the outrage of frustrated parents who have no recourse to popular schJools located next door to them, by dint of the fact that they were not alumni?
my kids are in the system already but i feel for the Singaporean 'ka ki lang' whose kids are about to register .... I will not continue in the Shylock discussion. Wherefore art thou Singaporean?!

Siblings is Phase 1.
Well, I certainly hope that my youngest one can still get into his elder brothers' primary school when his time comes even though the younger of his elder brothers will already be in Sec 4 by then!!! We really don't want to have to ballot all over AGAIN!!! That would truly be unfair. Better if they put \"siblings of former students\" in Sibling Phase, and I'd be super happy. -
3Boys:
Siblings of Former students is not Phase 1.

It's also not under Alumni Phase 2A1. Currently it's under Phase 2A2. At least have some priority.
And ... what if they change with this new revision and say that Siblings of Former Students have no priority? :faint: -
3Boys:
Phase 1 is for siblings still in the primary school. In Phankao's case, she may need to ballot if the alumni is being remove.

Sorry I am lost...topic no more about alumni? :? About SG citizens versus non-citizens?

laughingcat:
P-school or Uni?I am speaking on the ground that my child was granted a position in the foreign country school. Schools with deep history and are even more elistic than in SGP. How did we get in, in the first place? Based on entry level. Being PR, I need to pay alot high price as compared to the local PR here.
Well....our education policy sucks when comes to PR. As what you mentioned here do we all just buy in and keep quiet? As quote by you \"The world is flat, may as well get used to it.\" Nope. Even though a certain % still think that the world is flat, people will try to prove that the world is round. -

haha!
Looks like the KSP here have narrowed the \"culprits\" of the problems to 2 key areas:
- alumni/non-alumni
- SG/Non-SG
And at the moment, the hottest topic bc the latter. -
