Your son sounds like a very bright boy. Why did you bring your son to see Dr Chan? Why was there a need to? -

I did not know anything about autism in the first place. The more i read about autism, the more panic, desperate, worried, sad and depress i became.
Only parents with similar kids will understand your situation and give you sound advice, so do come to the thread to seek these parent' help and advice. Awareness has been raised about autism and therapies are more available than last time. Sharing and learning will lift your burden and make you more sane, don't bottle up. I hav another month to decide to bring my son to kkh physiology while I go their OT .. Later if my son improve k I reject going to kkh physcologist n continue kkh OT and other therapy?
I dun hav budget for thousand of cost every month for such therapies..
I m such a failure no mOney no brain dont deserve to hav kid.. n ruling his future...
Y I bring him here to suffer...
Please do NOT think that you are a failure. And you are NOT ruining your child's future. The fact that you are here, desperately seeking help and answers show to many of us here that you are a very caring and dedicated mom who loves her child dearly. I admire that in you. :salute:
I think for many of us here, we also have limited resources - in terms of time, money and expertise. We do what we can within our means and resources.
The most important thing is that we do not give up on the child and that we give them our unconditional love. -

My boy has been seeing the OT and ST for almost 2 yrs before we decided to send him to CDC. We addressed his articulation prob, poor fine motor skills, handwriting and feeding issues at the rehab before we went. They are from two different depts so u can actually see them concurrently. But rehab is not so much into identifying those with autism. They just deal with each prob u face. Now my boy's OT session is focused on appropriate behaviour in class and ST is on social conversation. It changes as his needs change.
Gee, this is news to me! So KKH actually got a rehab side doing ST too? The wait time for ST at the HPB is quite hopeless I can tell you ie. 3 months wait! So referred to go private. Half on their list of private not so good. Those good and highly popular ones hard to get appointments. I called up two already one no reply the other will call me when there is a time slot. Another one scared the hell out of my boy and I did not dare go back to her after the first consultation. One quite big group need to put deposit and pay one whole month's sessions in advance. I am seeing one not so popular ST on the list but I feel progress is slow and feel just not quite right somehow.
Desperately looking for another ST. How do you find the rehab ST? Do they work on helping your boy to talk? Can let me know how does a typical ST session being conducted?

I agree with schweppes and I think you should get a second opinion on his condition, sounds like a quick diagnosis from your description.

About this label thingy… actually, even if an Educational Psychologist (EP) diagnose the child as special needs… be it ASD or APD or dyslexic, etc… the report goes to the parent to keep. And if the parents do not disclose to anyone else, then who is to know?!
I always say, "tell only if there is a need to". My take is that if this person is of no help to my child, then you don’t need to know. Sometimes the less said the better.
The label, insofar, helps to put a name as to why the child is behaving a certain way; or why not meeting certain milestones. And if one knows the correct diagnosis, then the parent is able to send the child for the necessary early intervention; something that I strongly believe in because it narrows the gap between the child’s deficiencies and learning potential. -

Despite I told her my son never been to cc b4 n might be lack of exposure.
She keep complaining she can't cope w my son z
Cuz he dun take instruction n has bad eye contact..she only recently work at cc. Maybe 2 yrs experienc.
So to be safe n first TimE parent n first time deal w cc. So I better go. -

Before we are able to see KKH PD, , we are to sign a form of consent tat KKH has the right to provide information to whoever , be it social worker or within professional.. -

But because we are not experts, one suggestion is that you send your child for assessment (as recommended by Dr Chan). After all, it will be a qualified psychologist who will assess your child right? So.... if your child is NOT ASD, then that's really good news. At least you know that all is good.
But, if the report says ASD, then at least, you also know what to do next and how best to help your son.
In the meantime, continue to read and play with your son. At 2+, can play pretend play (masak mask/ cooking/ playdoh / ball games/ go playground...). Continue to talk and interact with him
He sounds like a very loving and sweet boy, and very lucky to have u as his mommy :rahrah:
