MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni

Its unfair because its hereditary, and we have a public school system, notionally open to ALL Singaporeans, not a monarchy. I have made my statement previously about active vs non-active alumni.

Frankly, I am not sure what is defined as a fair system. If it is fair to one, it would be unfair to another. Is distance fair??? Yes. But not if parents intentionally buy a flat next to the school just because they can afford to do so.

Precisely. And a lot are juz renting to get the address. Why should this be tolerated?

I agree with retaining 2A2 for siblings who is a former student.

Bcoz, with elder siblings (and parents) familiar with/used to, the school+system, it is in the interests of the child to study there rather than some unfamiliar schools.

The parents might have build some r/s with the teachers.. this is also in the child's interests.

As for parents who studied there, there were decades gap and I doubt the staffs/teacher/system/facility/CCAs remain 100% unchanged over the years to justify using \"familiarity\" as a justification of being in the child's interests as compared to the case where siblings are ex-student.

Distance to school is important. Getting into a good school in terms of environment and acedemic wise are equally important. I think most parents are in that mindset.

I think so be it then…this in my view is the ‘fairest’ and guilt-free way for all parents, since it means that it’s all the fate of the child…I mean even if the parents deliberately stay close to a highly popular school, it’s still based on random allocation by MOE right? No more the confusion or twisting an arm or leg or breaking the law or looking for loopholes in all the different phases…

This is a radical suggestion and in many ways, I support it. It will 'equalize' schools again... But I think, politically impossible to bring this through! We're not starting from a blank slate! :hi5:
