P4 term one is family tree, term two is Japanese Occupations
P5 term one also on Japanese Occupations, term three forgot
P6 only one project (can choose any topics) and 1 group work project. -

Many of the postings here are quite funny. :lol: I think a few of us pointed out that it is NORMAL to be not in the GEP, so uh, not much glorifying here...
so don't worry about it.
On a more serious note, I see references to the belief that those that made it past the screening test represent the top 10% of the cohort, while those that get selected makes up the top 1%. This is a fallacy, and it perpetuates the myth that a kid is not bright if he/she doesn't \"pass\" the GEP tests.
The fact is, most kids today are BRIGHT in the academic sense. How many of us managed to score above 90% for all our subjects during our time in Primary school? And if we were to sit then for the same tests that our children are put through today, it is unlikely we can even pass the tests.
So, if half of the kids today are able to score above 90% for English and Math in their normal academic work, but only 1% of the cohort is selected for GEP, it would mean that 49% of bright kids will be disappointed for not being classified as \"gifted\" despite their diligence and academic excellence. To these kids, they have \"failed\" the test by not being selected. They are not gifted in the eyes of the education system. How would they feel?
I will be happy for the 1% of children that get selected for the GEP, but I will cry more for the majority who are bright kids who just could not make the cut, and left wondering if they will be forever be inferior to the 1%.
but some kids are rather 'bochap' so they would simply 'bochap' if they can get in or not...haaaaaaa... on the other hand... those kids that have high expectation (like the psle girl on channel 8 last sat) will have the inferior feeling that u had mentioned..

my son scores pretty well for the family tree projects. for term 3, his projects were poem writing and newspaper 'thingy' writing... still don't know the result yet.... :? -

For the record, my boy just managed top 10 in the Pri 3 year.
And he always behind other classmate on his assignment except Math.
All prosepctive GEPers parent, not to worry about PSLE, almost all of the GEPers can do well in PSLE except very few.
As long as they put in some time int the school work, they will and can catch up during the last 6 month in Pri 6 before PSLE.

you forgot...'well' is a relative term. From what I see in this GEP thread, if u can't get into RGS/RI, it is NOT 'well' enough!!
All prosepctive GEPers parent, not to worry about PSLE, almost all of the GEPers can do well in PSLE except very few.

have been told by the teachers that they need to have sport cca inorder to have a higher chance in dsa.. is it true for your dd case :?
For some schools, it's sports, for others it can be music, UG, etc. -

Concur with chief message.
Let's bear in mind, the result only capture at the instance of the particluar time frame.
And this label will not be able to hold to the particular person, if he/seh chose not to excel in his/her undertaking.
But being in the selected few, they are expose to different things early in life and may be able to gain advantages than the rest of pupils, who because of some reason, did not excel in the selection test.
And this lot of people doesnot belong to the previlage few.
Not all my son classmate stay in private housing, and some of them like my family, from humble HDB heartland.

It is a myth.
All school has their own way of educating children.
It is up to us, as parent, to define good or normal school.
And compare to 80's, there are much more avenue to reach individual potential and not just few selected route.

Kiasimom, my side too he always do his things faster and distrub others , I had tried in P1 to keep tuition but teachers didnt want to accept that.leeven:
me too , my DS cannot sit for more than 10mins to study or do papers :x (every one including his teach teacher complains of this). I am too stressed always to go around him begging for him to sit to study. probably will start to put him in tutions.
Tuition doesn't work for my son. He makes his tutors so mad by not listening. In the end, I have to be his personal tutor.
but now the tuition centre I am planning for said for such a kid just give a book to read while waiting for others to finish their work... Good advise so planning to follow. I am not to personal tuition as I want my son to sit with others to know QAs from his class mates and more over he cannot really sit alone for a while as said earlier (I have tried for MT tuition and need to stop her due to his reactions) :roll:
