Those calling for the removal actually eyeing the seats and for the \"connections\". No more \"connections\" to rub shoulders with \"powerful alumni\" whats the whole point of this discussion anyway?

Speculative. Its an unfair practice, hereditary like royalty, no place in our society, plain and simple.
primary school nia, no guarantee that if in a reputable sch, the child will excel. Let them mix and play and learn with different race, religion, intellect from their age group.
still stand by what I think earlier.... personal views nia.Strparent:
I agree partially, but not the PV part.limlim:
What has church or clan connections anything to do with the child's educational interests??????!!
Should be removed totally!
PVs.. to some extend.. could be retained.. As parents who are active in the school understand the school system better.
And, as they contribute to the school (in terms of time and effort), it is fair that some priority be given.
This is meritocracy.. unlike connections..
All pr schools shld try to be as equal and fair as possible.
Priority should only be given to a) siblings still in same sch and then b) proximity to sch of own residence, not some distant relative of convenience. Period.
We already have this freaking elitist segregation in sec sch, dont let it flow down to pr sch, kids shld enjoy learning, NOT be too overly stressed to outdo each other at such a young age. -
Parents are proud when they can send their kids back to their former schools…this is the beauty of being a singaporean born and bred here. this will fall under phase 2A.
Thus, I suggest this phase be kept strictly for Singaporeans…protecting us citizens. As for phase 1, this should also be for Singaporeans -

What has pride got to do with this? Nope, it works for only SOME Singaporeans. Many others are disenfranchised. As I said in an earlier post, the foreigner factor should no be used as a smokescreen to propagate the alumni priority scheme, for the far greater number of affected are Singaporeans.Parents are proud when they can send their kids back to their former schools...this is the beauty of being a singaporean born and bred here. this will fall under phase 2A.

MOE reviewing is to finalise by coming 2012 Registration?

I wouldn’t say alumni is an unfair practise. Every singaporean has their own alumni. It is up to individual whether do you like your own school. And if you don’t just simply jump into another school. Not able to get into another non-alma mater school is definitely not an unfair practise. Reflect on yourself and see where you stand today in today’s society. Your alma mater will be proud of who you are in today’s society as well.

I hope not. -
I know there are several parents unhappy over this old boys/girls thing. However, not every parent sends their kids back to their former schools.
A former classmate of mine wanted to send her daughter back to alma mater but decided not to as she is staying too far away. Another friend didn’t send her daughter to SCGS bcos she has a son…so decided to register them in co-ed school instead. -

Exactly......that is still up to individual choice whether to go back to your own alma mater or not.I know there are several parents unhappy over this old boys/girls thing. However, not every parent sends their kids back to their former schools.

That is your presumption to say only some singaporean have pride and majority are disenfranchised. There is no real fact number to determine this.

I say Old boy or girl phase to stay. If they want to see effort put in, fine, have the old boy/girl to contribute some efforts before they qualify.
Throw in some fun, how about firstborn SGeans at point of registration with more than 2 siblings to qualify for phase 1 automatically? Those with many kids won’t have much time for volunteer work and govt trying to encourage multiple procreation?
I only have 2 kids and not planning to have more (so no personal agenda). Anyway, I salute those who have 4 kids and more. Have seen these around, and all Chinese families.
