MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni
-
Snow Crystal:
Phttph is a very active and hardworking forummer who painstakingly collates the PSLE quality passes for a lot of schools on her own accord. I really salute her efforts for that. You may disagree with her in a cordial way but no need to call her 'sxxxxx'...
I think you are mixing the 2 things up. Just by contributing to the forum doesn't mean one can get away with an unfair or outrageous suggestion. I'm certainly entitled to rebut as I wish even if I had never 'contributed' to this forum before.
In any case, I'm just 'me', not another person. I have been a passive reader of KSP but after reading phttph comments, I just have to register to state my opposition to her suggestion. This is how strongly I feel.
I apologise and agree I got personal. -

Exactly, I'm a Singaporean myself but I cannot imagine how could one blatantly proffered the suggestion to transfer vacancies from phase 1 (which by no coincidence is the FIRST priority phase as recognized by MOE for the longest time that it's important to have siblings go to the same school) to benefit one's own interest. This is 1 phase that should not be touched, PR, Foreigner or Singaporean, or priority for more than 1 siblings than automatically qualify.
What has pride got to do with this? Nope, it works for only SOME Singaporeans. Many others are disenfranchised. As I said in an earlier post, the foreigner factor should no be used as a smokescreen to propagate the alumni priority scheme, for the far greater number of affected are Singaporeans.janet_lee88:
Parents are proud when they can send their kids back to their former schools...this is the beauty of being a singaporean born and bred here. this will fall under phase 2A.

How about the rights of a parent to send the child to a nearby school for which they are not alumni? You can talk about rights all day long, at the end of the day, its about fairness.
Exactly......that is still up to individual choice whether to go back to your own alma mater or not.janet_lee88:
I know there are several parents unhappy over this old boys/girls thing. However, not every parent sends their kids back to their former schools.
A former classmate of mine wanted to send her daughter back to alma mater but decided not to as she is staying too far away. Another friend didn't send her daughter to SCGS bcos she has a son...so decided to register them in co-ed school instead. -
laughingcat:
That is your presumption to say only some singaporean have pride and majority are disenfranchised. There is no real fact number to determine this.[/quote]Janet Lee's point was that pride in sending a child to an alma mater is justification for alumni priority. For something as important as P1 admission, where is the logic that 'pride' becomes the biggest factor in gaining priority admission? That ihat I am challenging.

Sooner or later mod also has to embargo this thread liao...
:rotflmao:
there is no reason to embargo this thread if fellow parents continue to self moderate as demonstrated above and refrain making from personal attack.

agreed.

unfortunately, fairness is personal. what is deemed fair by some is usually deemed unfair by some others. -
Just to side track, govt has also used the p1 registration as a policy to encourage birth rate, especially for the graduate mothers.
In 1985, if remember correctly( I was still a student then), govt actually gave priority to graduate mothers who has 2 or more children for p1 registration. My colleague actually benefitted from it. She got priority to choose ST nic for her girl.
This policy was later abolished due to criticism on it's elitism.
Think if this policy is still available, many grad mothers will rush to have more babies, :please: :imcool: -
Donβt panic, Mr Heng promised more good schools. At one time I tot he said tat all schools are the same. So now got good and bad schools, how so?
It amazed me tat he is able to produe more good schools, how so?
All these years I chose to believe tat schools are all equal but some are more equals. Some are destined to be feeder schools to IP or Expressed, whereas some are feeder to N or ITE.
If this is true is it an easy task to make bad school into good school. -

I hope not too!titank:
MOE reviewing is to finalise by coming 2012 Registration?
:yikes: :yikes: :yikes:
Think all the school administrators will also sweat over this if changes are annouced closed to June and then supposed to be implemented this year.
