I’ve seen a couple of students using the roller bags but I think this is discouraged by the teachers. Roller bags may be heavier and more dangerous since the pupils also need to carry bags to venues beyond level 1 i.e. hall? You may go compare but I think those good schoolbags are something like a backpack with good back support. Someone will be there to sell such schbag (think the brand is ‘Firefly’).


If you check the timetable with your child daily (and you should make her cultivate this habit), the bag should be manageable at least for P1 and 2. Yes, my children do make use of the school lockers - but that is mainly for keeping ‘unimportant’ books like music, art etc. The teachers will also ask the students to keep all the subject files in the lockers too.

Oh yes, I see students carry tagging along an Art bag, in addition to their schoobag. I think this is cumbersome. I regretted buying the Art bag cos the purpose is only to hold the Drawing block. If the Art teacher allows, pupils should keep their own drawing block (and drawing materials) in the locker. Otherwise, I bought a tube which allows 2-3 drawing papers rolled up and slotted into the tube. I then place the tube in their schoolbags. In this case, they don’t need to carry something else other than their schoolbags. Art seems to be a rather ‘neglected’ subject in this school - both my DS spend most of their Art periods doing drawing and some work requiring colour papers only.

Thanks Puffer…so far I’ve got most of the school items. Now the only main item is the school textbooks. Do you know if prices are better at Popular bookshop (with discount card) as compared to the school bookshop. Any chance that if we don’t get it from the school vendor, we could end up with the wrong edition of the textbooks.


All these preparation work is getting me a bit nervous. Even the school socks are too big for my girl…now I’m afraid that I may have problems looking for a pair of school shoes for her.

Oh I was just talking to a parent today about the school bookshop selling stationery items at a higher price. I think with the Popular membership card, you should get the text at a lower rate. I got the textbooks from sch Bookshop though, as I was afraid of getting the wrong ones (which is quite unlikely in this case, as long as you have the booklist with you). You should get hold of the textbooks/activity books as early as possible. Reasons being (1) they might get out of stock, and (2) Go through the syllabi with your DD to give her a headstart.


Does your DD have small feet? I haven’t heard of socks being too big. On the contrary, both my DS complaint of new socks too tight. I get my white shoes at BATA and shops in M’ysia. A pair lasts them a semester (6 mths or thereabout).

I suggest you find out more from the Selection & Registration section, under which there are threads like the Registration Procedures, and if RV is one of your shortlisted schools, look out under the Primary Schools (Central & Bt Merah) threads. There were some comparisons and strengths and weaknesses of each individual school, and it also depends on your priorities. I suppose you stay around the area. Good to start thinking of the school to register your kid now. My DD is currently in K1 going K2 and next year is the registration time. I'm also considering whether to put her in RV (follow her 2 brothers), or in CHIJ Kellocks for an all-girl missionary education environment.

So you haven't decided on the school for your dd? It will be a blink of eye before you realise P1 registration is here again.

Yeah just can't decide which of the two schools. Don't get me wrong, RV is still a good school in my opinion - its their academic pursuit vs CHIJ Kellock's 'relaxed' form of education that is making me think hard.

My DS1 didn't make it to GEP but we are not disappointed. I'm glad that DS1 didn't bother about it abit too. He's enjoying the school with his current friends and teachers, so I'll concentrate on grooming him well for his next 3 years. I also dread the idea of picking and fetching if the kids are scattered in different schools

Thanks for the reply! I've heard some not-so-good thingy abt RVPS. And it's from one of the teachers who is teaching there. But i have my doubts on that. Would like to hear esp from parents with children in the school. RVPS is my husband's alma-mater (which is in phase 2A). I'm considering to put my BB there or to enrol him in St Andrew Junior which would mean PV and in phase 2B/C. Any suggestion?

:!: CHIJ Kellock adopts a \"relaxed\" form of education? Remember my daughter's childcare teacher? She withdrew her daughter from the childcare centre that she was teaching, and put her daughter through more enrichment classes - all in the name of preparing her daughter for the \"rigours\" in CHIJ Kellock.
