      JonC:
Hmm... can explain the SJI affiliation thingy?

If I am not wrong, SJI do have few affiliation feeder primary.

For people who knows little about this full school thingy, it went back as far as 70 to 80 years ago, this is how strong some of these full schools' tradition and alumni are.

If there is a sudden change, many alumni (70 to 80 years of batches) will strong petition against such thing from happening, and the strong alumni may just withdraw their support and this schools may just go down the drain. There are many such old school that went down the drain.

If you are in it, you will understand, if you are not in it, tell you children to work harder and get into one so that they can understand the strong network of alumni.
What i mean is schools like CHIJ TP and SJI have strong alumnis... but secondary students from these schools ARE NOT allowed to register their kids in the equivalent primary schools (ie, if you only attend secondary school in these schools - its too bad - your kid dont qualify as 2A.

But schools like CatHigh/ St Nic can - just because they are designated as full schools.

So my question was - why the descripancies?? I mean either you say all can or all cannot....

I understand why parents are anxious for 2A - and i was from a school with a strong alumni too -- so i can understand what you mean by strong connection. But i'm trying to advocate abit of 'fairness' to all.... Share the cake abit more for others who had not had the chances that we had..... šŸ˜‰

I have no more kids going to P1.

Some of these school do not have the full school maybe because they have too many good feeder primary school, can you imaging you need to attend 1 sec sch and your kid can go many primary school of choice.

SNG / CHS is 1 primary, 1 secondary. In the older days SNG and CHS are used to be Bro / Sis school and have strong ties betw, such that Bro of student in SNG can get to go to CHS and vice versa. This has been removed which I feel is already bad enough.

Eg: CHIJ (TP), CHIJ (Katong) etc....

Dont really understand why some can and some cannot.... šŸ™‚

Nanyang Girls alumni certain years and before graduate, child can go Nanyang Primary, but now no more, the 2 schools decided some many years ago that certain years and after graduate, no more affiliation.

If you suay suay is just after that cut of year, you will bang your head and ask your mum why you are not born a year earlier.

So it is just purely a decision by the school. Especially those autonomous schools, they make their own decision and they also fund most of the school operation via own funds normally supported by Church, Alumni and through activities organised. So now you know why? If can survive, you make your own decision, if cannot, listen to MOE lah.

There probably are good reasons for keeping the alumni connection if these children stay near the school (or at least not too far). Problem is, those staying very far are also sending their child to their old school. This may not be \"for the interest of the child\" to travel long distance everyday and this also deprives children of non alumni whose staying very near the school a place in this school.

I think the problem lies with who deserves the place more: alumni who stay very far vs non alumni who stay very near.

She added that the scheme aims to allocate school places according to a set of fair and transparent criteria that are in the child's educational interests.

There are six phases in the registration process, with siblings of children already in a school getting top priority. Next come the children of alumni, parent volunteers or those with church or clan connections.

                    This.

What has church or clan connections anything to do with the child's educational interests??????!!

                    Should be removed totally!

PVs.. to some extend.. could be retained.. As parents who are active in the school understand the school system better.

And, as they contribute to the school (in terms of time and effort), it is fair that some priority be given.

                    This is meritocracy.. unlike connections..

Agreed with the point on clan etc...

But parents do PVs should not give priority though. Volunteers should be truly volunteer work without hoping to get rewards.

So in case it is decided to keep PV system, perhaps the title should be changed from \"Parent Volunteer\" to \"Parent Helper\".......
