It is a no brainer that we should not have tuition n enrichment centres as an integral part of our lives but the question is can we? After reading these threads about some schools not teaching but merely testing, before we ban tuition centres we should ban exam papers that test students beyond what they r taught in school. Seriously we should question the effectiveness of \"teach less learn more\".

                Not necessarily..

nowadays Teacher can afford to teach less and less because parent go to enrichment classes.. and the vicious cycle repeats..

If enrichment classes are banned, then students hv nowhere to go to but to reply on the school teachers (except some with private tutors). Then the teachers have no choice but to teach properly, and adjust the exam papers accordingly.

A few student who can afford tuition and maybe stay in front (but not too far away) is ok and acceptable. but not the masses like 90% of the class ahead of the school's pace..

Once enrichment classes are banned, majority of abled students will stay at the school's pace. There is little pressure to get tuition to stay ahead of the classes.. And tuition will be seek by the few minority who need the extra help.. just like the old days.. everything will fall back in place.

So.. the first step to take is.. ban enrichment centers! who agrees?

The key point is.. most of the time, most kids go enrichment classes not to be the top few.. but to take up with the schools pace which gotten faster and faster.. which is a result of students going for enrichment classes and so on....

Take out the root of the problem.. and set things right.

I go to the academic section once in a while....some of the math looks very complicated but guru such as tianzhu makes it look so simple coz he could draw the models, albeit a bit more complicated....

                  Is this testing beyond??

Definitely testing beyond for the sake of it...

we are the only place in the world where kids who are NORMAL are not good enough must be EXPRESS or GEP, IP etc. so definitely must push beyond all reasonable limits.

                    All schools are good schools?

the same question as β€˜are all companies are good companies’?
Why some companies go bankrupt over economy crisis? Why some companies still can survive for so many years despite facing World War 1 and 2, and currency crisis.

The management team plays very important role. Likewise the principal and his/her team.

on teaching less issue, i am sure some kids (in secondary schools) have encountered teachers teaching them things which are meant for a levels and above.

dd (sec 2) has teachers (young teachers) who kept saying they dont expect the children to understand the topics well cos' the teachers only learnt it when they were in jc/uni.

some parents (drs in their 40s) also expressed surprise cos some of the stuff were things they learnt in uni.

so to tuition centres the kids go. i dont know how the kids fit all the tuitions into their daily schedule. mine came back about 3+ most days and can only sleep about 11 pm. some friends go to bed at 1 or 2 am nearly everyday. 🀷

                      just ranting.
