It is a no brainer that we should not have tuition n enrichment centres as an integral part of our lives but the question is can we? After reading these threads about some schools not teaching but merely testing, before we ban tuition centres we should ban exam papers that test students beyond what they r taught in school. Seriously we should question the effectiveness of \"teach less learn more\".

      Not necessarily..

nowadays Teacher can afford to teach less and less because parent go to enrichment classes.. and the vicious cycle repeats..

If enrichment classes are banned, then students hv nowhere to go to but to reply on the school teachers (except some with private tutors). Then the teachers have no choice but to teach properly, and adjust the exam papers accordingly.

A few student who can afford tuition and maybe stay in front (but not too far away) is ok and acceptable. but not the masses like 90% of the class ahead of the school's pace..

Once enrichment classes are banned, majority of abled students will stay at the school's pace. There is little pressure to get tuition to stay ahead of the classes.. And tuition will be seek by the few minority who need the extra help.. just like the old days.. everything will fall back in place.

So.. the first step to take is.. ban enrichment centers! who agrees?
The key point is.. most of the time, most kids go enrichment classes not to be the top few.. but to take up with the schools pace which gotten faster and faster.. which is a result of students going for enrichment classes and so on....

Take out the root of the problem.. and set things right.

ban enrichment centers! - I know this will never happen in the real world but i still support your idea. Let MOE pay for the copyright/patent for ALL the resources (teaching materials & teachers) and distribute them to all gov schools. :congrats:

By then MOE will say All Schools are BEST Schools. :rahrah:

we are the only place in the world where kids who are NORMAL are not good enough must be EXPRESS or GEP, IP etc. so definitely must push beyond all reasonable limits.
Yes, the NOT-normal kids outnumber the Normal kids...quite ironic!!

Why can’t MOE set the exam papers for all levels so each student are tested on the same papers and should be based on MOE syllabus. There is no need to send to tution centers since all kids should hv been taught what is being tested?

mine came back about 3+ most days and can only sleep about 11 pm. some friends go to bed at 1 or 2 am nearly everyday. 🤷

              just ranting.
I am curious...is this sustainable in the long run? At their primary years which is physical developmental years as well, should they be following such a schedule? In our adult lives I can understand many Singaporeans lead this kind of lives, sometimes we are known as the next city that never sleeps other than Hong Kong. However, should our children lead such lives? I don't remember growing up like that...think I will have dementia very early if I have done so...

My child also has classmate sleeping from 1-3am due to schoolwork, not daily but scary enough to me cos my child has never done so! :faint:

my dd has panda eyes now. i have given up getting her to bed early. sat and sun sleep till late am. this is definitely not good for her health especially when her body is going thru some changes now.

i do remember my nieces and nephews dont get to sleep early when they were in secondary schools too. jc and poly and uni much better.

Is the amount of hw unrealistic for your child on a daily basis? :?

there is supposed ot be a new 1 hr of homework kinda thing. but unfortunately not every teacher takes heed of that.

we are monitoring the situation and helping dd to find ways to study smart and simple. she is quite an independent girl though.

i freak when she told me she is considering geography and history tuition like her classmates. luckily she was joking.

Only let dd watch 1/2hr news no other TVs and go to bed at 9pm. Otherwise if like her friends watch 7pm/9pm shows then do hw and sleep at 12midnight or 1am.
