This morning I showed it to DH. At the end of it, he had 2 streams of tears! As for me...no need to say.[/quote]
:hi5: it's cost me more than 3 pcs of tissues coz i like to watch over occasionally for reminderblessed777:

Cost me 3 pieces of tissue. One when I watched it myself and 2 when I watched it with my 2 DSs.
before finding this video i gv dd illustration of learning to ride bike, i told her that although she fell many times she didn't stop trying untill eventually able to ride with no difficulty anymore & the riding skill become a blessing as she can now enjoy riding bycicle... she love the illustration & posted it on her fb status

Thank you pench! The time table look about the same as last year.2012 PSLE time table

I felt a chill go through my spine when I saw the PSLE time table. Almost like awaiting a death sentence…I’m afraid.

My DS came back with high As for MT and English but a B for Math. Never had that for Math before. I can’t help but feel a little anxious but told him to learn from the experience and move on.

Oct 2 2012 is day of freedom.
From now, it is building tolerance and stamina...march hols are no hols though. Same goes for June. Was told by his teacher that they have to return for extra lessons in the first week. I had problems breathing and hyperventilating...especially during the 2 weeks before CA. -

The kids will most likely be showing you their CA1 results this coming week if they have not already done so. Anxiety can rise irrationally when you have no \"benchmark\" since all you have is a string of absolute grades.
I'm not sure if the below will help alleviate some anxiety, but perhaps I can share some concrete numbers for comparison and inject back some sanity as you look at your DC's grades:
DD did well enough in the PSLE [ I'm sorry -- I prefer not to reveal too much but let's just say that children with this score made it in to top schools].
Our school's papers [ see (a) below] are out there in the market ,so just in case your child is in a school where you suspect that anxious teachers have set \"wake-up\" call papers, and you are down in the dumps over your kids' results, perhaps you can use your child's results from practising the \"easy school papers\" and compare them with DD's standard ( set out below) for these same papers , so that you have some gauge of the PSLE standards.
That said, this is a completely rudimentary method I used myself [ for lack of better tools] when some kind mummies shared their kids results with me, so caveat emptor ; but I drew comfort from it nonetheless and although it was not the main reason for my measured response to DD's grades in CA1 and SA1, it did give me some small measure of peace to focus on DD rather than panic about the numbers.
Comparison parameters:
a. We come from what forumners have termed an \"easy paper\" school;
b. In CA1, DD did a comfortable Band 1 for M and S, 80 for E and a dismal just scrapped through Band 2 for MT [ Teacher said already highest in class :nailbite:]
c. In SA1, DD powered ahead hitting A* ranges for both S & E but MT remained in the Band 2 range and Math dropped to a Band 2 grade! :faint:
d.In SA2/Prelims, DD improved all her grades into strong Band 1 grades with an A* in Math
e.For the unenlightened, Band 1 is 85 and above, Band 2 is 70 to 84 and I have taken an A* grade to be 91 and above.
f. Remember these results are from an \"easy paper\" school - so the absolute marks look \"good\" but may or may not mean much.
g. DD found the PSLE 2011 M paper \"easy enough\", Science paper \" nothing like any school's paper and \"hard\", Eng \" something easier than what school sets\" and MT \" easy enough\" [ but mind you, she still attained only an \"A\"; however Mummy is well cognizant of her being a true Potato Kid, so we are just so thankful for this already :rahrah: ]
DD's teacher could not explain DD's poor Math showing in SA1 either but when we went through the paper, DD could actually do all the ones she got wrong :scratchhead: Hiaz - what to do? She could have been tired (physically/mentally), could have blanked out... the lesson I took away was that I needed to make sure that towards the last stretch, she didn't lose interest [worst stretch to motivate was the month between prelims and PSLE, and the absolute worst stretch was when the 2011 Prelim papers from other schools were brought home], she was well and not sick , all critical so she could do her best and do justice to all the hard work she had put in.
I'll post this first and come back later to share about how we \"predicted\" DD's score at the PSLE... -

I personally felt it was easier to press on at an even keel so DD and I never broke from our routine much; we had scheduled \"down time \" everyday and family time with the extended family over the weekends was scaroscant as was church but for the rest of the time, March/June hos included, 1 day hummed along into the next...
We too went back to school for a week in June because it was part of curriculum time [8am to 12noon for 5 days] . -
In 2009, a friendly mum told me that you could \"predict\" your kids' PSLE results by multiplying the gross raw score for the 4 subjects at prelims by a certain magic number to \"find out\" the anticipated T score at PSLE.
I tried that and DD1's PSLE T-score was nowhere near.... magic number was \"wrong.
The mathematical explanations are way beyond me and logic tells me that there have to be too many assumptions made for this to possibly be a means of an accurate predictor but then, if you squeeze everything into a bell curve... I'll leave the scientific explanations (if there is indeed one) to the experts in the forum.
BUT just for FUN and totally without rational basis, I tried the formula again for DD in 2011 after her Prelim results were released; this time though, I derived the magic number from DD1's PSLE T score as against DD1's prelim results, and then applied that factor to DD2's Prelim results - this time, it was a lot more accurate and when DD shared this \"factor\" with her friend, in that instance, it turned out to be an accurate predictor too. So total survey pool of anecdotal evidence- 2 people - so like I said, if you want to do this for FUN, it's okay BUT big BUT...
I won't tell you the number we used because it is useless for you if your DC is not in our school and it assumes consistency on a whole lot of parameters eg kids perform to similar standard, school papers set to similar standards, PSLE set to similar standards...assumptions which are all up in the air. BUT if you want to try this for fun and a friendly senior mummy from your DC's school is willing to share the information....
I actually do believe I have seen factor floating around in this forum before but I'm afraid I can't quite find it anymore.
Caution again ok... JUST FOR FUN! Have a great weekend ahead!
PS. I have to take a break from this forum for a bit - moving house, losing maid and piles of work in the office so insanity rules my day mostly... I'll be back as soon as I am able but the Mums, Dads and P6 kiddos in this thread are never far away in my prayers - GB!
