Hi Shandee,
Thanks. BTW, I was wondering when the English remedial will start for P4.
Any idea?
Tks, -
Not sure abt remedial…
Wats the diff btw the terms "remedial" & "supplementary"? -
I thought Remedial are for those students with poorer grades.
Supplementary are for all students.
Well, I maybe wrong. -
shandee:
oh...did anyone have the practice CA paper for (normal) Chinese?
DS Chinese so-so only.....so maybe its just me but the compre part seems quite tough....testing alot more on the students' understanding of the story & being able to express one answer in own words....
just sharing....there may be external vendor conducting EL creative writing class, in term 2........
For the EL creative writing class, would it be for all levels? Is it part of supplemary? -
Hi Parents
I am currently doing PV at RVPS. Daughter will be going thru registration this year for her P1 next year. Need advice on a few questions:
1) Heard that there is an influx of foreign students in recent years (indo / PRC, etc)?
2) Heard the emphasis now is very much academic instead of character building as I previously thought?
3) Chinese streaming starts at P1 already?
Basically why I choose RVPS is because I have always thought that they are emphasis a lot on character building instead of academic results. This to me is impt as I feel children should build a strong foundation on values.
Why i am concern about the influx of foreigners is because of the location of the school, the income range of these foreigners are generally much higher, and I am concern that it may create a situation whereby there will be unneccessary comparison of the child’s family background. One of my daughter’s classmate’s mother was sharing with me how her elder son (not in RVPS) having low esteem as his peers’ family background are all from rich families and they look down on him as they are hawkers.
Any advice from parents of RVPS?
Thank you -
Hi Parents
How do i check on the school bus availability from my house to RVPS?
Worried about the distance.
Thank you -

So far from what I heard and impression I have is that RVPS is emphasing alot of academic results for the past few years. That's why the students are having alot of homework

As for influx of foreign students, I believe you can see it when you are doing PV duties. Not surprising considering there are so many condo along River Valley Roads for these few years. This also results in balloting is required even for < 1km -
Err…how do you noe the sch emphasize on character building ?
With regards to foreigners…i have seen americans, filippinos, "afro-american", vietnamese, chinese, etc students ard…they are still a minority, i feel… personally, thot its good that local kids get exposure to different nationalities…
P1 now currently on holistic teaching/ assessment. No CAs & SAs, but on-going mini formal tests / informal tests (show & tell)… Chinese "streaming" starts after mid-year of P1, just though the …better students would proceed to take on higher chinese… nothing to uptight abt…
i have not heard my kids commenting on who-has-what…so i guess they are not bothered abt the difference in family background/ wealth…
hmwk wise… depends on how fast kids do their hmwk…still managable though i would prefer teachers to be consistent in giving out hmwk throughout the term & not oni when the exams are near…
just my thots -
my son is in p5 this year.
yes, the school talks about character building being important but to me more have been emphasize on academic.
son does have some classmates who are foreigner. there’s no concern at all about family background or wealth. he has more classmates staying in HDB than private actually.
he also has lots of home work at times. worst before the SAs as they have to complete the topics that need to be tested…
