Hello Augmum, how's workload for DD? Much busier in Y3, right?
Good that son is kept busy with school work. Otherwise, he is always busy comparing Apple and Samsung. 😉

Hi Augmum, saw your post in RV thread regarding HSK. Didn’t know that there is this oral component. Was it stated in the memo? Maybe I have missed it.

              Thanks for sharing.

                Hi nightrace
yes, yes, gal is very much busier than last yr..... :faint:
besides curriculum workload, she has to attend training for competition for her CCA which is held outside sch.
Now, those common tests were over, but almost everyday is a deadline for projects and assignments.....

                but Yeah....friday is a holiday..... 😄

Seriously, it is very depressing to read this forum. The school has made strides in the A level results, having a greater percentage of students having 6,7 and 8 distinctions compared to other comparable JCs, and yet all I read is people dismissing our achievement.

This is a critical juncture for DHS where opinions are shaped permanently about the calibre of the school based on the A level results. We need to start producing results that our PSLE COP intakes suggest we should. The 4th best PSLE intake in the country should produce 4th best or better A level results! All the old boys and girls knows the school has seen better days than in the current pecking order.

6-9 distinctions are not the only or most important indicators. These data just represent the cream of that cohort.

percentage of 3 H2 distinctions maybe a much better indicator of how well the whole cohort does as this is directly linked to the UAS which determines the percentage qualifying for local uni.

if only the top 20-30% does very well while the rest are just average, then as a cohort they may not have done very well.

Below is the data collected by another forumer:

Percentage of cohort which achieved at least 3 H2 Distinctions:
                        1. RI - 68%
                        2. HCI - more than 50%
                        3. VJC - 50%
                        4. NJC - 44%
                        5. RVHS - 44%
                        6. DHS - 40%
                        7. TJC - below 40% (estimated)

DHS is ranked 6. This is respectable, given that there were only 3(?) batches of full IP. But as Kevin said, DHS shall strive upwards. When VS/VJC goes full IP, it will be an attraction to students from the east. Value adding is always important.

University admission is getting tougher nowadays. To get into Business Faculty in local universities quite normally requires 3 H2 distinctions.

And we are not only talking about academic results only. In the past, students need good results and CCA to be considered for scholarship. Look at the president scholars profile last year. Many had done community services.
