Hi all,


I terminated the services of my PT maid 2 weeks ago, so now I'm maidless and am happier! My PT maid has been giving me problems (yeah, even PT maid has attitude problems) like punctuality and black face. I have 2 kids, 8 yo and 4 yo and both husband and I are working

Before I terminated her services, I worked out how we should split the housework and planned to purchase some equipment to help.

Just to share how we split the work and what we bought :
1. Vacuum - roomba everyday when we are at work / school (Just bought)

please let me know if this is useful. thinking of getting one too. like where you got it from and price and model.

2. Mop - once a week by my husband (I'm thinking of getting a Bonamop / scooba too)

3. Wash and hang Laundry - once a week (about 3-4 cycles) - Me

think it is better for you to do it twice a week in case of continuous downpour and they dont dry asap. also for your 8 years old, make sure he has extra sets of uniform/pe tees/socks etc in case you are unable to get them ready for school. check his timetable and plan your washing.

4. Ironing - once a week - Me (Just bought a philips ironing system)

i split my ironing into 2 or 3 times a week. usually iron and watch tv shows at the same time.

5. Folding - the kids fold their own and we fold our own. Family activity: all sit down to fold clothes.

6. Wash school shoes - my 8 yo washes his own shoes



7. Wash toilets - my husband

wash and bath together

8. Cooking - Me or husband (depends on who reach home first). Bought a Thermal Pot and Happycall Pan. Sometimes I'll cook soup in the morning, else, we'll have one dish meal like spaghetti.


9. Washing of dishes - Me

So far, it has worked out all right. We normally complete washing of dishes and bathing at 8.30pm every night, so everyone starts work/revision.

I think it's good to forgo the maid (whether full-time or Part-time). The kids have become more independent (my boy even boasted that he washes his shoes better than the auntie!) and we have more time for family bonding.

I'm still constantly looking for ways to improve the housework...so things would run more smoothly at home. My next step is to plan the meals on a weekly or fortnightly basis..

Just bought the roomba over the weekend, so let me try 1 week first before I recommend u But after running it for 3 days, the floor does seem to be noticeably cleaner. Even my husband, whom was skeptical initially, seems to be more interested and asked me this morning whether I turned on the roomba before we left the house.

For laundry, I tried to split up into 2 times in a week, but usually end up forget to hang (cos too tired and went to sleep). Yes, so I have extra sets of uniform and PE attire for my boy. Clothes drying is usually not a problem for me, cos I hang indoors and my place is quite windy. Usually encounter clothes not dry once or twice a year during december...but no problems because it's school holidays.

Ironing is a breeze with my new philips iron. For my husband's working shirt, one stroke across will be straight, sleeves also only need to iron one side, the other side would be ironed. So I dedicate 30-45mins every sat to ironing would be enough. (I only iron clothes that need to be ironed like working clothes and Polo Ts)

Good idea about washing of toilets ! But I don't like to wash toilets ...haha...so my husband wash. It's good, because this duty encourages him to use the toilets with care !! :boogie:

I think he is good in the sense that he is willing to do housework. That's because he doesn't like to have a live-in stranger and we saw that kids become pampered when there is a maid around. My sister parked her maid with us when she travelled and we felt the difference.

He is ok with engaging PT maid, but unfortunately she gave us problems after about 1.5 years with us.

But a guy being a guy, he is lousy in certain types of housework...washing dishes and laundry...that's why I do those chores.

I am the one who trained him!! haha...u should've seen my mil's house! :yikes:

Anyone know where to buy spin mop? Home fix and OG selling one for $49 to $60. So expensive ! Anywhere sell cheaper?

I bought mine during Robinson sale $40+

In case of misunderstanding, I meant that I do not need to move the iron a few times on the same spot to get satisfied results. So one business shirt need about 8 strokes of iron.

Mine is also Philips brand but lower model, GC7430. Bought at best denki during promo for $299. Think 24 hr mum bought the higher end one. Thing to note is that these iron has huge water tank that is separate from the iron. So need to buy a more sturdier ironing board to support the weight. My new ironing board is $50.
