      HAPPYH:
      POA Teacher:

Effective from next year, and only applies to those renewing or starting from 1.1.13.

When the time comes my maid (if I still have one then),will be given the day off every week. If she doesn't want to go out, that's her problem, not mine.

Yes, I also think if they dont want to go out (4 days/month), it is their problem. They should not expect the extra money. We can just provide them food. Currently I am paying $25 dollars for her off-day. It is not because I want her to work for me. I just want to save the trouble of wandering around and get into trouble. But if it comes for 4 days (next year), I am not prepared to pay and will let her take her off-days.

Maybe we have to get used to the idea that they may be \"off\" but still at home. We can't force them to go out so in theory they could just stay at home and sleep all day, chat on the phone or whatever.

Remember that all these arrangements must be agreed by the maid. That’s what the newspaper say. Maid must agree.

Maids signed contract. Later unhappy, said madam forced her to sign. Then organizations will come out and condemn employer. Maids don’t lie.

Parents, care to share how many hours of ‘off’ you give your helpers? I used to give 8 hours off to previous helpers. Am enrolling my kids into flexi childcare weekday programme so will persuade helper to take off day on one of those days instead of Sunday.

Maid's agreement is required if you request that she gives up the day off. If you don't request her to work on day off (or if she does not agree to work that day), the law applies -> she takes the day off. No payment.

Anyway I cook on weekends when she is on duty or off. And I dont mind giving her free food (3 meals).

Imagine if a new maid comes to work for and she’s incompetent. After 6 days with you, you need to give her off. That’s the part I find hard to accept. After working for another 2 more weeks still cannot make it I will probably will transfers her out. I wonder whether the new maid "wa! So good, cannot work just transfer. At the same time I can still go out and have fun. Since my employer don’t like my work, go out already, no need to come back" will this happen?0

Imagine you get a new job - at the end of one week your new boss thinks you are pretty useless. Does that mean that he/she won't let you take Saturday & Sunday off?

I doubt a new maid is going to just go off and not come back - where will they go unless they are old enough to go to HOME or the embassy and claim abuse. Yes there are some bad apples but they are a very small minority.

On top of that, they won't be getting their salary yet, how are they going to go out? End up they want advance salary?
