I assume you are signing up for the 10-11am slot cos i saw the new course listing on their door when i went there last week

There was 1 parent from DD2 class who wanted to switch to that timeslot but was told not possible cos that class will start from scratch. That means the kid has to join 3 months later or go thru again which will be boring.

Actually i was kind of interested to continue with the Maths after DD1 Phonics ended. But her teacher then told me that DD1 being just 4,was too young :idea: and may not grasp concept fully. If really keen, start at K2.

Also, for MMI, the next step after Phonics is actually Compre 1. Again, teacher say
DD1 at N2 is too young. Maybe i could come back mid K1 or later.

However, currently, i hv started DD1 on abacus. Thus, not likely i will enrol her in MMI maths afterall. :moneyflies:

Maybe you can ask them for more info on their Maths classes before you commit?

Cause the earlier lessons are more of introduction to the Montessori Math
materials... knowing numbers in quantity and written symbols up to 100...

And by the time they reach 4.5yrs old, the children should be able to cope
with the concrete beads foundation... mebbe can do with less recording for
younger children cos some can't reali write that much, but should be able
to manage simple additions for starters...

Hi, my son is 4 now and will be in K1 next year. He knows the 26 letters and the letters sound but he cannot read (at all) eventhough we have been reading to him every night . I would like to send him to phonics class. I have done some \"shopping\" at nearby ctr but so far those ctr I talked to do not allow me to speak to their teachers and of course all say theirs is the best. Can anyone help?


- any recommended phonics school for him (based on your experience) in the west?
- any recommended home-based phonics program in Bt Batok area?

If your boy knows only single alphabet sounds, then most likely start
from level 1 - TCS. If he knows all 26 letter sounds very well, plus some blends (two letters combined eg. cl, bl) then can start from Level 2 - PRP.

hi,
my ds1 only knows how to read mid to end of K1 after he had attended basic phonics class (his pcf outsource to dowell; we paid separate affordable fees for that) and mostly after i introduce sight words to him.
you can try introducing sight words gradually as they make up bulk of any sentence structure.

I think the MMI Maths is good but it takes a good centre or teacher to deliver it...

I guess the one in JE may not have the teachers or rather not enough take-up to open a class...I will look around for some good centre for maths, and I'm not too keen on abacus coz there is no one to guide my kid if he ask an abacus question... :oops: furthermore, it is not P1 syllabus, won't it lead to confusion later....

i remember when i was a small kid, my grandma used to teach me abacus, but till now, i could say....it's not used in school, so eventually, when it's out of sight, it's out of mind.... :lol:

Just to add, I am speaking from experience as my girl was from

ICanRead Woodlands Civic Centre. L0&1 may have locally trained
teachers while L2 and above are usually foreigners.
They pin up the teachers' credentials and photos, so take a look when
you drop by their centres.
