      New HPPS Mum:
Any parent here facing problem with your kids visiting the bookshop? My P1 son has been visiting the bookshop everyday and buying things which he do not need at all. He has not been using his pocket money to buy food but spent on buying unneccesary things(eg. small toy, erasers, cards, paper wallet, etc). Should I stop giving him pocket money?

I think you should find out why he is buying all the stuff. Is it peer pressure or he likes the stuff. The kids are given money to manage and they suddenly realise the power of it and may be a bit careless in the management. Besides cutting the allowance, it will be useful to share the value of money with him to encourage him to analyse what he will be missing if he mis-managed the money. Eg, if he saves his money, he can buy something better and bigger in the future.
My girl at P1 likes to buy snacks to share with her friends. If she doesn't buy, she feels that she won't be included in the sharing. But she started coughing so we are limiting her purchase to once a week. We will also start baking cookies so that she can bring and share with her friends. The money that she saves will be used to buy books that she gets to choose everyweek. She loves reading so she is excited about this arrangement.

        Hi HPPS Mum,

Which class is your child in? My DD is in 1J, and I don't think there's much homework. Maybe homework on only 2 days, with 1-2 pages at the most.

        New HPPS Mum:

I think the amount of homework is quite a lot with two to three worksheets on most days. One of the nearby school at my area(Bukit Panjang) does not have any homework at all(This was what I heard from one of my friends who don't like the idea of having no homework for his kid :p)

New HPPS mum, it’s just a phase that the kids are going through. My son also used to run to the bookshop everyday and will end up using his pocket money to buy things instead of food, so I cut his pocket money from $1.50 to $1. It’s the first time that they are given money to handle and buy things they want so they will be excited abt it. When they go to Pri 2, they will not be going to the bookshop so often, but occasionally when they see their classmates buy something interesting, they will follow.

The students have to reach school at 12.35pm everyday except for Wednesdays. On Wednesdays they should report at 1.15pm. Dismissal time is 6.30pm everyday.

                  yws,

when is your child registering? Cos by 2014, the school should be functioning as single session already.

                    Hi lesmay,

My DD will be in P1 next year and my DS will follow 2 years later.

Does anyone know if the single session will operate after June 2013 or only in 2014?
