Err, you mean despite the fact that this was P5 CA1, dyh's ds still topped the cohort in Maths? :rahrah:dyh:
thanks to all. :salute: this is only CA1...

BUT this is P5 CA1 :salute:Scary:
Next time why don't you shock her by saying that your ds is not reading Chinese storybooks, he is just reading 联合早报 nowadays. :yikes:Had our first PTM in PH. Seems pretty standard reply from Chinese T to most parents, i.e. to read more story books.
Scary:
You mean FT is supposed to draw during class lessons? :?As for FT, wahahaha. . .my DS very daring, not read story books but drew during her lessons.

Hi FQW,
Most kids suffer a drastic drop at P5 CA1, but dyh’s son topped it. That calls for a reward. It’s a known fact that P5 Math is super tough.
Hey DYH,
What did you feed your son with ? P5 Math is so tough, and we know PH sets tough papers. -
is pei hwa a very good school in terms of teaching methods n environment? i am totally clueless … are the students there as good as the school image?

Hi maykenth,
Pei Hwa is a SAP school. It is also an academic driven one.
It is a pressure cooker here, but then again, which school isn't. -

Chanced upon this and had it bookmarked to ask DD.Order of the 4 operation - follow the BODMAS rule and you won't get it wrong
B Brackets first
O Orders (ie Powers and Square Roots, etc.)
DM Division and Multiplication (left-to-right)
AS Addition and Subtraction (left-to-right)
Divide and Multiply rank equally (and go left to right).
Add and Subtract rank equally (and go left to right)
Order of Operations
Do things in Brackets First. Example:
6 × (5 + 3) = 6 × 8 = 48
6 × (5 + 3) = 30 + 3 = 33 (wrong)
Exponents (Powers, Roots) before Multiply, Divide, Add or Subtract. Example:
5 × 22 = 5 × 4 = 20
5 × 22 = 102 = 100 (wrong)
Multiply or Divide before you Add or Subtract. Example:
2 + 5 × 3 = 2 + 15 = 17
2 + 5 × 3 = 7 × 3 = 21 (wrong)
Otherwise just go left to right. Example:
30 ÷ 5 × 3 = 6 × 3 = 18
30 ÷ 5 × 3 = 30 ÷ 15 = 2 (wrong)
Jennifer, I can sense your frustration. 加油!
Just to double check if her T has covered it.. :nailbite:
Thankfully, DD said yes.
Thanks for sharing this (BODMAS Rule), pepper spice. :please:
Like Jennifer, i didn't recall learning this at all or perhaps i didn't
pay that much attention during Math lessons or maybe i already
knew even before the teacher taught it.
Steady orh? :rotflmao:

What should I be expecting during the PTM?
My child is in Pri 1 this year… The EL FT said he is ok, not the problem maker, not to worry. All remarks seems so general and encouraging. But when I asked what are the improvement areas for my child. The FT’s reply, "oh, there’re so many students, can’t think of any of the mind".
At that moment, it seems to me that the session is meant for teacher to complain to parent about student who has "problem" ie discipline / academic.
If that the case, the school should call parent separately to address the so called "trouble maker" group. -

Why you didn't remember leh? :scratchhead:

Orh, because you were busy making eyes with the handsome boy next to your seat mah .....

In that case I'm more fortunate than you. I had very specific recommendations on how to improve ds from last year's PTM.What should I be expecting during the PTM?

Maybe my ds belongs to the 'problem child' category. -

Warning! Point blank question ahead. Between PH & CHIJ, which is tougher to survive, for kids and for parents?
Right, now no matter how you answer, you'll to definitely offend one group. Devious on my part isn't it? :rubhands: -
FQW:
I know you love to give me a hard time.

Pei Hwa is known to be academic driven. CHIJ has tests every 10 weeks to make sure girls remember what has been taught and also to know that they cannot talk when there is a test. Among teachers, there will always be black sheep too. My daughter is blessed with a patient and caring FT teacher since P1. My son had a caring one in P1 too. CHIJ has a warm feel among girls bcos it is all girls school. So have I offended any group ?
