My son weak in MT,though T doesn't find anything to tell me to improve. :? She just asked me to send tuition. :yikes:

It was my dd MT teacher who called me to advise on hw to improve dd MT, dd failed her MT. The teacher didnt ask me to send her for tuition (maybe because dd is in neighbourhood school ? šŸ˜‰ ) instead she told me to help my dd but i told her that idk Chinese so cant teach at all i just send dd fr tuition, she said i can learn just like her when first time came frm china didnt know english but together with her son learn english by them self :scratchhead: she spoke to me just like a motivational speaker motivating me to try n not to give up... i bet she doesnt know that chinese is the most difficult language on earth ( to me )

After we complain in KSP about Teachers asking us to get tuition, from now on Teachers will all say no need tuition but PARENT NEEDS TO HELP. Instead of resolving the root problem of insufficient teaching, teachers are advised to refrain from telling parents to get tuition?

Tutor teach or parent teach - same difference. Those who can't teach, pay others to do so. Those who can't teach and can't pay... oh well...
I believe if you tell the teacher your difficulties, most teacher is willing to help.

My dd P4 math teacher called me last year in term 1 to inform me that my girl math drop as compare to P3 SA2. From Band 1 to Band 3.
She asked me whether I am able to guide her at home if my girl occurred any problem. I told her frankly that my dh and I are not very educated, I am unable to help her because I am worry that I may teach her wrongly which will make thing worst. I told her my girl also don't have tuition, so all this while my girl is doing all her school work by herself. Her teacher is so understanding that she said she will monitor my girl in class and if necessary, she will give her extra lesson after school. After that from Term 2 onward, my girl math go back to band 1. šŸ˜„

Thanks Mrs Seah... DS's Chinese teacher is a gem even though she did once scold DS in class for having a Mom who asks for CL Oral supplementary notes (which the school didnot produce and so she could not give). I didn't blame her for it so we are still on good terms.

Lately, I explained to her the difficulties we face and she offered to mark all the practice compos DS does at home. I was afraid to over burden her so I proposed that she mark 1 home-practice compo every 2 weeks for us to gauge DS' progress. I can get Grandma to mark the others. She has 40 students and 4 classes. If everyone comes to her with difficulties, the poor lady will have no life.

Teachers like her would be very much helped by
(1) access to a common pool of e-resources shared amongst all the schools in the country...
(2) smaller classes and
(3) more comprehensive textbooks.
DS' Chinese teacher's face glowed when I thanked her warmly for going through DS' CA1 mistakes with us. Such teachers want to make a difference. The system should help them work. I am convinced it is not her fault that she was unable to give us supplementary materials. She just doesn't have them.

DS English teacher is the opposite. She has misplaced 2 of DS' compos, and she hasn't replied a very polite emails from me, even after a polite reminder. Personally, I won't pursue the matter anymore because I don't see any productive result from it. What I will do is to approach the Principal next year to ensure that she no longer gets to teach Upper Primary English.

Because different people got different view mah.

The \"Someone\" want ban tuition

The \"Someone\" don't want ban tuition.

We can't please everyone lah. No matter how MOE change, \"someone\" will complain.

LOL!!!

After that nasty teacher left suddenly, class was rewarded with a great FT who is the exact opposite...she is warm, responds to email/queries promptly and definitely caring. Has EQ.

I know teachers are very busy...but the last thing I expect is such treatment. She dare not do it to parents, so she punished a child for being pro-active. Damn idiot.
Strange thing is, why did she return ? With such mean teachers, parents cannot possibly do anything.

Hard to talk about what to change when the response from MOE is not \"let's dialogue\" but is \"it's all parental fault/perception\". 🤷

:snuggles: It's ok lah... just try and manage lor... there are so many viewpoints that MOE also too lost to assume leadership. As individuals, we just make the best of it. There are ways to get around these things on an individual level... and whatever we can't resolve, just bear with it. Make the best of it. Look on the brighter side.

Not all schools are the same.

Schools have different system of management which was passed down from previous generations. Some schools are thus more effective in its management while others are not as good.

I do not advocate that MOE makes all schools equal deliberately. Differences are natural. Principals in schools should not be swapped every few years. This is just a way to steal ideas from talents from a school and distribute those ideas to other schools that have not done anything. Copyright should be respected and original ides from each school should be recognised accordingly.

I find it strange when Chinese teacher rang me up and spoke to me in English. LOL! It's fine she has an English name, but since she's supposed to be my DS's Chinese teacher, I would have expected her to address herself as X lao-shi instead of using her English name. Also funny when I came across DS's homework and the MCQ question has answers 'True' and 'False' (in English) for the kids to choose from! DS was the one who LOL!! I didn't know whether to laugh or to cry with him.
