Hi need some advice…my girl is due for P1 registration tis year…my hubby is an old boy of de la salle but we are not staying near so for putting my girl in the school, she has to wake up very early… We were thinking of enrolling her in Woodgroves Pri which is stone throw from our house…for u guys to choose, which school will ur go for? If going for CCA, de la salle offer better, for result wise, Woodgroves Pri is better…actually we are going more for environment factors…pls do give ur advice… will be much appreciated…

If I were you, I would move house nearer / more convenient to the DLS

If u r not able to relocate, u can still go for dls so long there is bus service. Then when your kid start p1, assess if the sch curriculum n environment justify the long distance. If yes, then u can look at option to relocate or continue w sch bus. If no, put your kid name at woodgrove waitlist citing distance as reason for transfer.

Hi Moms & Dads and the experts...

i was wondering, does all primary school provide same CCA like gymastics, Wushu etc etc..

            No.

Hi..how can i find out what CCA does the school provide? Via website?
Eg: I went to Nanhua Primary school website, they dont have Gymnastics as CCA, but under CCA achievements, they actually list down Non-School CCA achievements - Gymnastics.

The school will still recognise non CCA competitition achievements?

Should parents consider the CCA of the school before deciding which primary school?

How impt is the CCA in primary school?

Best is you try to link up with parents of existing students in the Parents Networking thread to find out more. The sch website may also not be updated. Importance of cca depends ie if your kid is talented in chess or golf, surely u will want a sch that offers such cca. else u should consider schs that offers a range of ccas that u think your kid will like. I mean a range, not just 1 niche cca because u must be aware that cca vacancies when limited, students need to go thru audition. N also when u get into that cca, what if it is not what u or your kid expected?

Thanks Jedamum, i am actually considering school near west side/ clementi - Nanhua or Henry Park Primary school. Looking for place within 1km and preparing for parents volunteer. Based on your opinion, which is better choice and stand a better chance for balloting. My aim is to provide a better school environment for my sons (Born 2008) and Born (2011).Thanks

Not sure about your chances in either pv or ballot, but both are very sought after schs n gep centres ie better resources, curriculum ba eg twinning program n what not for those not qualify for gep in p4 etc. to note nanhua Chinese focus is much higher than henry park imo.
Actually with the means to relocate, why restrict to only west? If u r mobile n looking at relocating, u should consider Boys sch with good affiliation to good sec schs since u have 2 boys. Jmo.

no harm trying to apply for pv at both schs; once accepted (by both if you are so lucky/can provide niche services), you can start pv and then decide which sch you like...there is no obligations to complete pv hours if you subsequently do not want to register in that sch (but must complete if you want to register in that sch). Not sure if PV is open to foreigners, this you must check if you are one). for phase 2c, both are hot hot hot schs. balloting status, you have to check at the relevant threads in this forum.
                        GEP info is http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/programmes/gifted-education-programme/gep-schools/
advantage of getting in GEP centre schs are that some general programmes may be shared among GEP streamed and mainstreamed classes (this i heard/read la, no first hand experience).
you should read and browse MOE's website to read up more about local pri schs.
more popular boys pri sch with affiliation that i can think of
                        - ACS
                        - Maris stella
                        - Catholic high
                        - SJI Jnr
check out this to find out more about the PSLE affiliation points advantage
