why her daddy against it???
Daddy gives us a long lecture on why academic excellence is not everything and does not guarantee success in life. Also, he has heard too much \"horror stories\" from friend whose child is in GEP.
She could go for the GEP tests coz I did the \"sneaky\" thing of signing the form and asking her to submit without showing the daddy. -

Looks like she is pretty good in Maths averaging 90+ if you average out the three results. The advantage of going GEP is the greater chance of gaining DSA to the top schools if she does well in the GE programme even if she did not do very well in the PSLE. And the fact that if she is the not so hardworking type and yet do very well in exams means that she certainly has some level of giftedness. She got 86/100 for SA2. SA1 97, CA2 90. Getting lower by each exam. dh jokingly asked me 'er, did she become stupid ah ? if the marks keep dropping, by P6 no marks left!'
True. At the end of the day, your gal must be the one to make the final decision. Otherwise, she might blame you all if she hates the environment she is forced into it.
We made a huge mistake when we chose Anderson Secondary School for our elder girl after her PSLE. She was clearly very gifted in languages in Primary; especially English but she struggled to do well in Mathematics in Secondary. When it came to streaming in Sec 3, we realised to our horror that because Anderson Sec stresses hugely in the Life Science, there was only one class for the Art Stream. In the end, she had to struggle in the Add. Maths n Physic ( she dropped out of Physic eventually) in the Triple Science Stream through \"O\" level.
However, when it was decision time to choose Arts or Science in JC, our daughter made up her mind to go Arts even though Science Stream is the more prestigious in the eyes of most students and parents. We gladly affirmed her decision and it was the right choice bcos she just cruises along all the way to Uni. and doing excellently, reading English Literature.
Sorry, I am usually long winded one but the point I am stressing here is let your daughter makes her final decision without influencing her too much. And in whatever choice she finally decides, it is ok if the choice turns out wrong because there will be many opportunities along the way to get back onto the right track just like my daughter. A high IQ kid is very blessed. When one door is closed, there are many other doors that a smart kid can open and thrive..
I pray that God will bless your kid in whatever decision she makes.

Since this is a very important decision, I feel that it is very important that all three must be in agreement. If your hubby is really dead set against it, it would be better to give in to him. Moreover, it seems that your DD is not really enthusiatic about it either. Otherwise, if DD has a tough time in the GEP, I'm sure your hubby would likely blame you day and night.Daddy gives us a long lecture on why academic excellence is not everything and does not guarantee success in life. Anyway, you are very blessed with a very smart kid. She will definitely thrive wherever she is in. If needed be, sign her up for some challenging courses from time to time to develop her potentials further. She will surely have a very bright future no matter which decision she makes. :celebrate: -
for those parents who kids are emotional attached to their current school, my advise is to talk to MOE staff during the GEP briefing. They can share their experience of how to handle this.

I have just spoken to my kid and she told me that she is interested in the programme but is not willing to change school. I told her to keep an open mind, listen to the briefing this Wed.
No matter what, I think I will respect her decision because that's what I have promised her. :snuggles: -

Hi,
My child cleared GEP. Would appreciate if someone could comment on Saint Hildaโs school and its GEP program (how is the school, what is the feedback on its GEP, etc.). This school is nearest to our home and given a choice, would like to enroll her in this school.
