CHIJ Primary (Toa Payoh)

Maintaining results and making sure it doesn't drop is a tough job...comprehension OE is a section many kids fail. Personally, I do get switched off when I have to read such a long passage
Instead, forcus more on grasping the Maths technique and Science concepts so long as she does not fail her English. English at upper primary is rather tricky esp compre..I will be happy if she can pass her compre section.janet_lee88:
Hi bebe,
Compared to my son's school, I feel that CHIJ does command a higher standard.
but cannot show it.
Science is a subject which require interest...teachers always say 'keywords'...but how many actually teach kids what is the meaning of keywords...it's not that straightforward as just giving keywords to get the marks in open-ended section. Sorry for ranting. -

Janet, it's ok go on ranting. I know what you mean. I think they should just allocate 10 minutes to reading the Compre, apart from the answering part. The passages are long & even for kids with average English, they need time to digest, then next step understand. And ... there is the understanding of the question part. You know when you read the P6 compre questions, they are not straight forward at all. Yes, IJ standard of EL is high. Try getting a copy of the P6 Compre passage & you will know what I mean.Maintaining results and making sure it doesn't drop is a tough job...comprehension OE is a section many kids fail. For Science, apart from knowing the keywords (meaning learn the spelling of the keywords correctly too), the kids must have good answering skills to string the keywords into a sentence form, like answering a Compre passage, except that it is with Science keywords inside. -
Hi Honey,
Thanks for your consolation.
It's stressful having to handle such a high standard. Son is in P6, and yes, those comprehension passages are long (sometimes boring).
As for science, kids have to learn how to answer open-ended section questions in a correct sequence. How can PSLE be so tough ? There is still a long long way to go. Poor kids. -
Good Morning Janet , no worry I am in the same boat as u.my DS also P6. Let’s move forward together .cheers

Oh yes, we are indeed in the same boat...looks like we have to row the boat harder. Managing his school hw and tuition is no walk in the park :imdrowning: -
I am working mum, so my boy gets a bit free time before I back.

Hi mama_dza,

Can't remember the date - maybe it's nearer the end of term. but as for topics, there was a 3 page info sheet on what was taught for term 1, asking kids to revise them. term 1 alr 3 pages, more to come in other terms! :faint:
not sure what will be tested but i hope we get sample papers a few weeks before the test. -

As a working mum, it must be hard on you...so tired after work and yet monitor his progress. :salute: -

Until now, I still didn't receive anything so didn't revise at all during Mar holidays :nailbite:. Maybe the letter is from your dd's FT.
My dd brings all her subject files back to school today :faint:. -
Hi any parents from P1 to update any test after holiday?
