We are worried - but my DS is even more worried, so much so that we have to try and console him - now army life is better than before, got catered food, got simmons mattress to sleep on, not as bad as it used to be. šŸ˜†

yeah lor, the minute they step out of camp for a weekend out, ah gong, ah ma and aunty will be at gate to carry their barang barang.

and if you want french food, got french food (even in hawker centre), spanish, japanese, italian, mexican food to make up for the whole week of \"yucky\" food they have in camp.

sat/sun can go for full body massage, spa treatment etc.

last time where got massage (unless from mumsie dearie). šŸ˜‰

having gone thru NS, I maintain that it's good for our boys, especially this present gen. No, I'm not some high ranking officer but a lowly soldier. šŸ˜‰

Anyway, it's not just NS. Just a few days ago, a professional soccer player, think 23 yo, collapsed during a English FA Cup match...no pulse....

            And.. trolley bags..?

it's unlike last time we have to carry ali baba bags..

Nowadays.. soldiers are not like soldiers..

air-con buses, trolley bags.. over pampered.. and some get their maids to carry field pack somemore.. what a disgrace..

Welfare is good.. but should not be to the extend of over-pampering.. food, medical attention etc.. should be well looked after.. but air-con buses, trolley bags etc.. is ridiculous.. I feel..

They're training a soldier.. not mediacrop artists hold rifle for show..

Kekeke, your kids are luckier than my dearies, since they have to carry their own things, tidy up their own things or they (the things, not the kids) end up in the bin and help out with the housework.

limlim is right that we can't take security for granted. I had to educated DS on reasons for NS too, to prick his imagination of what happens if one day 'bad guys' come to take over our homes, our schools, and capture our loved ones. If he didn't receive any training, would he know what to do? Etc. etc. Of course, we'll be sore if bad things happen to them, but he'll just have to be strong and smart, and learn to survive through think and thin.

One 10-yr old boy died during basketball or soccer practice recently. Must all the P.E teachers know how to do CPR?

                  yucky..?

Normally during ICT camp, saw quite a number of NSmen actually wanted to eat the meal in camp. The taste is acceptable and they saved $$$$ then to eat outside.. youngsters nowadays don't appreciate.. maybe money come by too easy for them.

seems like cardiac arrest were quoted in quite a few cases.

I wonder how thorough is the pre-enlistment medical check up ?

I know of one guy who didn't appreciate food until he joined the army. Cos they use up so much energy (he's a big eater), the food given to him in the army wasn't enough that he waited by the dustbin to finish up the food from whoever could not finish.

I remember some yrs ago a SG gangster was caught/shot/killed in MY and it was reported in MY that this guy was a M16 (rifle) specialist!!

I was like WT :censored: ! All SG guys who has gone to NS know the M16 inside out...we all M16 specialists wah!!!

I think our neighbours are quite aware of the fact that given a rifle, we guys are ready anytime!!
