Look like we have many bored to tears mummies here like myself. I think we better find ways to occupy ourselves, especially when our kids are growing up real soon, and we will find one day we will have no one to nag at .

Hi

Just wanted to check with the P4 parents on how to practise English and CHinese compo at home. Just realised that DS only did 2 english and 2 chinese compo in sch for whole of Term 1. Really need more practice given that sch not giving them much practice…He only stayed bac in school once twice a wk so on other days, he will also dilly dally, do homework (only half an hr) and play…He has no tuition in any subj and only has piano once a week plus tennis once a week.

Do u asked yr child to write comp at home and how often?

I got my 1st wakeup call when dd in P3. The school only did 3 eng compo and 2 chinese compo b4 SA1. The papers came back with not so encouraging marks (not a fail grade). The teachers (EL/CL) also photocopied the best 3 compos in class and shared with the rest.


We talked to teachers and some parents on how to improve in compo for dd. Eventually we decided to send dd for extra classes.

Now dd in P4 is attending Eng Creative Writing and Chinese Compo. At least she has more practice for both every week.

For my case, I have not started with DD1 with any compo writing at home Previously, I sent her for EL Creative Writing but barely on the 5th lesson, she sounded out that she is very tired after school and unable to concentrate in the creative writing class :sad:


For Term One alone, she has done 4 EL Compo (individual and group work) & 4 CL Compo (individual work) in school. So far so good Guess, dear lazy mummy here has to pick up and start some kinda of revision with her lioa (before the SA1 coming soon knocking on the door!) :nailbite:

I make him write one compo a week, alternatly between cl & el with the help of home tutor cd. but so far no improvement yet…

My school told me they don't subscribes this magazine. They subscribes national geographic(I think, forgot). I read in Little Red Dot magazine website that individual cannot subscribes.

DD1 just called to say that the class is given the subscription form - 7 issues for $26 and she wanted to subscribe to it, though it is not compulsory

Do u mind sharing with me where I can get this Home Tutor CD? All I hv are some model composition books fm Victoria Publications. I am also considering creative writing class but he is not too pleased abt it so I thought I will try asking him to write at home but sometimes lost the discipline when sch cca and sch work gets more frequent. Anyway, all I can correct for him are the grammer and sentence structure, punctuation. Writing style etc, i am not good at it as i really cannot write like that. He just passed for this very first chinese compo this yr. Hv not even see any eng compo yet.

Son did compo almost every week at tuition. Not full compo though, eg somtimes only conclusion, or only intro or short writing, but at least some prac. For cl, he sign up for cw, also doing part compo. No improvemt leh. Mummies coaching kids to do compo at home, how u guide ? Discuss first then get them to write?
