no wonder every where also sell this cold tou huay...a new one jus pop up at bersar food centre. Tried n also felt is as good as lao ban or i think slightly better cause its less sweet n more aromatic.
What's the name of the store?
Last Saturday morning, I wanted to buy from Lao Ban but it wasn't open yet. I found another store down thesame stretch but opposite facing (called 51) and I tried it. Found it to be equally good. Don't need to queue so long next time as there is another good alternative.
try beseh food centre. stall name fruit cup. suprisingly my kids loves their yam pudding. I personally like their strawberry v natural sour sweet. -
Haha I heard about it! I always wanted to try this out
Anyone knows how to go there by foot?? (as in take public transport) -

Nearest MRT station is Farrer Park. Exit from CitySquare mall and heads in the direction of Jalan Besar. -

Was having my lunch there recently. Observed that when it's not peak hr, both 51 & LB also have Q...maybe 4~5 persons. But during peak, the LB Q grew and grew....and 51 totally no business.

Anyway, someone tried the HWZ recipe and the pro-LB family endorsed it!! -

Wow! Like that I must really try out the recipe liao. My kids love the bean curd! We tried all the 3 different stalls at Old Airport Rd FC. I think 51 and LB taste almost the same. The one facing the road (without label on their bowls) is a bit sweet.kwcllf:

I haven't tried the one at Berseh food centre yet but quite familiar with that area.
By the way the Instant Jelly Powder contains carageenan, derived from a type of red algae. This I found out from the photo posted on hardwarezone on the same topic. I am interested to know what the jelly powder is made of becos my wife need to avoid algae products for health reasons.
Although carageenan is used as a thickening agent in many food products, I inadvertently found out about some health problems it may cause. You can refer to this link:

Tried the one at Berseh food centre on Saturday. The original tastes similar to Lao Ban. But the others, Yam, Strawberry, Mango is different. The texture is more like pudding. Taste-wise, they are not bad.

I did however try the recipe since I love soya bean curd. When I saw the recipe calling for instant soya bean milk powder instead of fresh soya bean milk, I had my reservations. I tried drinking a cup of the instant soya bean milk, cannot make it, really don't quite like the smell/taste. So when making the jelly, I boiled the water with some pandan leaves. Still cannot make it. So in the end, my dustbin ate all the jelly. :razz:Nebbermind:
