At present, you choose such and such school that you believe is such and such... then the Principal changes... and everything changes. NYPS has a strong board and can thus ensure some continuity through the years. So can ACS. In many other schools, it becomes the luck of the draw. If you have a weak Principal... a good school can become mediocre in 1 or 2 years.
      ....................

this I agree 100%. seen it with my own eyes (for both the good and the bad)

Sometimes we forget it is the quality of the students that make the different. If all good quality students all go to a few schools, how can these few schools fail in term of delivery of results? Well heel parents are known to move mountain and earth so that their children can enter the desired schools. Their children are provided with ideal environment (by both parents and schools) to excel academically and how can these branded schools ever fail? The cycle goes on and it just perpetuate the notion that these schools are really good.

On the other hand, the off springs of normal folks keep ended up at various neighbourhood schools and they can't compete with the branded schools because all quality students already ended up at the branded schools. To make matter worse, the really quality one at the neighbourhood schools will make it through GEP and they also ended up at the branded schools.

To me, it is the quality of the students that make the school.

In primary schools, the cohort does not differ when two schools are in the same neighbourhood and drawing from the same HDB population... and yet one is known to be good, and the other is to be avoided... and we aren't just looking at school KPIs and awards. We are looking at the overall experience recounted by Aunties as they walk home from the market.

MOE is therefore at hotel industry level then?
                    Noooooo....

How can MOE be industry level? It is at most hotel chain level..

                    Why

Because all schools is under the direct command & control of MOE!

School are not independent body operating at their own whim and fancy like different hotel chains in the hotel industry..

sorry, I meant money kind after reading this post
                        northvi_sad:

Recently, we were ask to sign an application form to make payment from our child Edusave Account. Two of the items spell as follows:

                        http://i42.tinypic.com/eskn13.jpg\">

I call the P regarding the above mention items, and was told that its kinds of software that manage student Portal, eLearning( distance learning in cause of SARS period) blogging and others. Further more I was told that every Terms the pupils need to make this 2 items again. I don’t agreed with the principle that this 2 software application should be under our account. I reason that this software application it’s a common use software application Like Microsoft office and any many others third party softwareware application. The school should pay full amount instead. The P say he had been doing this for 5 years now and I am the only one to complain. Hello! you could be wrong for 5 years and now I’m kind enough to correct you. To end he say he don’t want to “argue with me” and hang up even I'm still on line. I don’t think this is an argument a discussion or a feedback I suppose.. Dear P: Wonder the purchase of the Netbook can also be under the Edusave Account ??? he will tell you NO because.... this n that. BTW how they come out the amount ??? wonder how much is the software cost? Just do some maths 1500 pupils(Estimated P1 to P6) x $8(Pupils Pay) = 12K(per terms), 12K x 4(Terms)=48K and for 5 years will be 48k x 5(years) = $240K.??(compute base on Pupils Pay from Edusave) a software cost $240K+ +. Anyway this school needs audit !! (misuse our Edusave)

This could be a misunderstanding on that NV parent side, we also hv been paying e-learning in our kid's school n never give a thought abt it. I know that parents in other school also need to pay for this. I personally dont mind to pay as the children use the facility n the amount is reasonable compare to what parents generally spend to buy children's CDs, assesment books etc... 🦆

I dont know how much the school software cost, I just know that companies spent a bomb when installing software in their offices. I ask an IT Consultant if the above amount reasonable for School software, he say yes depends on the type of the software and the number of users.
