Not at all. Sometimes, I steam a small piece of pumpkin inside the rice cooker when I am cooking rice. Once the pumpkin is cooked, I would place it inside the sieve and use a spoon to press it through. Of course, I have tried mashing it with a spoon but find that the texture is not as smooth as using the sieve method. I use the sieve to mash up bananas and papayas too. Sometimes, there is quite a bit of fibre in some of these fruit and veggies and this can only be filtered using the sieve. It's a method that my mom taught me cos in the older days, blenders are unheard of.

Of course, the sieve cannot beat the blender lah. πŸ˜‚
oic... maybe i shall try if i'm not lazy lol.

              Hi northernstar,

It's actually very easy and fast, once you get the hang of it, mostly because the food has been softened after steaming. Just ensure that you get a big sieve, that all πŸ˜„

We got a blender (cannot remember which brand though…could be Philips or Braun one of such brands not the baby brand). Now my BB is 10 months old and we are feeding him beef, fish, potato, carrot, spinach and fruits. We blended the minced beef, portion out into the ice-cube tray and freezed them. Same for the spinach, carrot, potato and fruits. All blended/mashed then store them in cubes ready to steam and feed! Now my BB is eating one small cube of beef, potato/carrot and spinach. Just unfreeze the cubes, mix them up and then steam for about 10-15 mins then feed. Really delicious!

                  Desertwind 😒

DS2 also 10 mths but cannot take mashed food except for pear, papaya and avocado.

He still suffers from reflux and I haven't introduced meat yet cuz don't want to aggravate it even more!!

He tends to digest those Nestle and Friso brand cereals well. So I add pureed vegetables into them ...

I use the old fashioned sieve method. Have used the blender, but it was too troublesome unless you have a big batch to freeze and you want to give coarser foods like meats, which are harder to pass thru a sieve, to a younger baby. You won’t use it for long anyway so no need to spend too much on it.

                      Hi autumnbronze,

                      Oh dear poor BB!
But at least BB is taking the cereals and mash fruits well! πŸ˜„
Actually I would have deferred feeding the meat and fish to my BB until he turns 1 yo but my MIL suggested we do the beef thing and his PD also said to give him coarser texture so we tried recently lor.
I actually love the rice-cereal and am planning to use it for as long as I can. It is just so convenient to mix the rice-powder into the Heinz pureed veg. or home-made veg. then feed.
I pray that your BB will be healed of the reflux problem soon AB!

I use the 2 in 1 Avent Steamer + Blender. It really works well for me. Less items to wash; just a flip upside down using the same container to steam and then blend. Save me some time!
