Sorry if the connotation to \"middle\" is causing grief. Anyway, dilemma! Should I stay home but hubby don't look me very up to be \"competent\" (cant drive is a minus point) enough at home and would be bored very soon, But I think I had enough at work already and would like to focus on my kids, hubby says this is escapism from work!! Really dilemma!

To me, money is not everything. 10k+ income is enough to sustain a family ( also depend on how much liabilities n kids u have) comfortably. Ill rather have more time with my kids when they r young than live to regret when their childhood is gone. It is this time that u form the greatest bond w them. If u are bored, which I'm experiencing now ( my baby's not even born n I've been away from work for only half a yr. ) can always find a hobby or do something which u like, part time. N I realise another good thing about staying at home... Is that your health gets better. Rem health is something money can't buy?

go for it!! it's a happy dilemma to have such an option. Cos hubby can earn enough not to have financial worries, can get to choose! :rahrah:

You aren't having the time of your life at work, and children always matter more anyway, so go for it! :rahrah:

It's not escapism. it's changing focus at this season of life.

guess depend on who likes to “杀,杀,杀”in the corporate world and who likes to \"杀,杀,杀”roaches at home.
haha, this really made me LOL.

in this day and age, it's also a bit like who likes to “杀,杀,杀”in the corporate world and who likes to \"杀,杀,杀”at the tuition teacher and kids at home.

Why must be able to drive then can stay home? :? Even if cannot drive now, can still learn mah.

It is very important that your DH understands and support your leaving the work force. From the little you have shared, it seems he might not be very for the idea.

As for whether $10k is enough depends on your current financial commitments and savings.

$10K is still considered middle income, maybe upper middle. Top tier pple earn >$100K per month… like the CEOs, ministers, bankers etc… Dun compare with the poor lah

Anywayz, you should know yourself best. Are you frustrated becoz your $10K requires you to be on call 24/7? Then just get a lower stress $5K - $8K job. You must sacrifice something - status, money or sanity?

Sometimes, it’s the way we handle our bosses, subordinates etc. I know of a manager who earns >$10K but can go home at 5pm every day to cook. She is married, no kids but wants to have work-life balance. You need to tell your boss you are results-oriented.

Your DH seems against the idea of you quitting so have a heart-to-heart talk with him and find out his views before taking the plunge. That’s impt as you are a team and if you quit without seeking his support, you’re asking for grief.

Your salary is 50% of the household income so without it, you must make some lifestyle changes which he may not be comfortable with. Big earners become big spenders. Hard to reverse. DH commented the other day that he has become such a spendthrift (though still conservative IMO) after his income went up.

Why not ants? Thought ants are more common at home compared to roaches? 😉

hahaha, my rich galfriend and her group of tai tai would not hesitate to spend the hubby's $$$.

they have more right to spend the $$$ than the mistress and girlfriend.
so spa package, slimming package, high tea, long lunch at orchard, personal shoppers, 1st class treatment at jewellery stores, fly biz or 1st class etc.

huh?! are you saying that these tai tais hubbies all have mistress and gfs?

Wah, if like that ALL the more must spend the money until he jialat jialat no money to 养二奶。。。

yeah loh, apparently one long term mistress and many casual girlfriends. the few wives are like as long as he comes home, family fortune intact (for her kids), take care of her and kids' needs, attend social events together ( ) okay.

wives close both eyes and as long as the balloon doesnt pop (no confrontation), they can still maintain the usual husband and wife relationship and still be good parents to their kids.

most of these relationships are conducted overseas. when i met one hubby, he is like a typical dad. very involved in teh kids' activities (be it family or school) and there is absolutely nothing betwwen the couple that said the marriage is in trouble.

Housewife must ferry the kids mah... if she cannot drive, then what's the point? I am sure she won't want to take the bus/mrt to fetch the kids rite? So from hubby's perspective, he still needs to do the ferrying so this housewife is not very useful rite?

To be SAHM, the hubby will expect some basic skills -
*Driving - to ferry kids around
*Coaching (at least for lower primary level)
                    *Cooking & Grocery shopping
*Cleaning & Laundry (unless you are a taitai with maid lah)
*Medical caregiver (try not to make him take leave when kids are sick)

The general idea is SAHM should try her best not to disturb him since he is now the main breadwinner and must concentrate on work mah  .

$10K a month is not enough for you to be a tai tai yet.

                      Ya agree $10k can't b tai tai...
Anyway driving n cooking can always learn. Then the rest r innate isn't it?

What is the range (household) you would consider as middle income ?
                        Around $5000
