bellyhoney:
Thanks for the info.Super Alice,
Yes, their Compo and Compre(materials & teacher) are very good. My P3 boy is very motivated to write. That's why I want to book for my younger son for P2 writing next year. Expensive but money very well spent!
I personally like their newspaper teaching. My boys can even discuss the articles with me, especially when I can find the corresponding English ones in strait Times.
Katong is still better, new and lower teacher/student ratio. My friend want to sent her sons to Bukit Timah's branch but P3/P4 are full! She is still trying to ask XL to start new class. -
lim_ks: If Xuelin is too far, then just try out Tienhsia. I have recently found out that it is owned by a friend’s father-in-law. Not promoting them, as not tried before.
If tienhsia is not suitable for your kids, then look for another one. -
In fact, both locations are out of place for us too. Beside, she has classes at united sq on both sat and sun and after sun class at united sq, we have to go to XL at Bt timah.
But after sending her to their k1 class till now she is in k2, we feel it is worthwhile and I totally agreed with bellyhoney on XL’s newspaper articles… It does not only cultivate their interest in Chinese and it also helps my child to pick up and learn many 生字. I feel that this is useful for future compo writing…
My girl also loves their 株老师 a lot… N tell me that their classes are very interesting… -
Pixy: Thanks. I has just registered my P2 to Xuelin only, starting lesson next week. I will try out term 2 and see if the driving is all worth it! The P1 & K1 can afford to wait 1 term. Will keep all posted if sending to Xuelin works.

Good! Tell me how their p2 classes are like?
I am thinking of stopping Berries end of this year, and continue xuelin. I have just found a Chinese tutor to teach my daughter swkd once a week at home. First lesson this week.
Term 1 - twice a week Chinese lesson for a daughter has been working well. Now she can understand Chinese, and sing the Chinese songs taught at Berries and XL. I still like the way Chinese is taught in Berries still.
Term 2 onwards - 3x a week Chinese. Hope she can converse in Mandarin soon! -

Not bad, my two kids p5 & k2 are doing well with Hua cheng now, no regret.GyGy:
I find it's neighbour Hua Cheng is good.
Hua Cheng's method is very dry. Not suitable for everyone. -
What is hua Cheng?

Hua Cheng is another chinese education center, which has other branches at thomson and eastpoing. I only tried the one at Bukit Timah Plaza at the same floor as xue lin, as just fit to my time. Here is the link: http://www.huachengeducation.com.sg/ -
Pixy: My P2 attended 2 lessons with Xuelin; compre(last minute slotted in due to my KS-ism :imcool: ) and this week lesson for compo. My gal enjoys their lessons very much but doesn’t like the newspaper reading
. Her teacher tells me to give her time.
I really like their compo materials. I thot it’s simple but after talking to the teacher, I realized that it’s the teacher who makes the different! Not just in getting the kids to be interested in Chinese but also the effective transfer of knowledge! The kids learn from basic and going forward, their foundation for writing should be real solid! At least now I know now that my children have no need to 背作文! :rahrah: Just need to memorise the good phrases and use in context. The lady boss is telling me, it’s like memorizing the multiplication table for maths.
As for the paper 2,my P2 just enjoys it, looking forward to go to Xuelin. So far for the 2 lessons, at least I find the driving is all worthwhile. My P2’s feedback for the 1st lesson is that they dun have to do a lot of homework yet she can learns a lot. I will continue to monitor!
I just hope that they will continue to engage the kids and having good teachers. Kudos to Mao Lao Shi; half my battle won! :boogie: -
