Pixy: Thanks. I has just registered my P2 to Xuelin only, starting lesson next week. I will try out term 2 and see if the driving is all worth it! The P1 & K1 can afford to wait 1 term. Will keep all posted if sending to Xuelin works.

Good! Tell me how their p2 classes are like?
I am thinking of stopping Berries end of this year, and continue xuelin. I have just found a Chinese tutor to teach my daughter swkd once a week at home. First lesson this week.
Term 1 - twice a week Chinese lesson for a daughter has been working well. Now she can understand Chinese, and sing the Chinese songs taught at Berries and XL. I still like the way Chinese is taught in Berries still.
Term 2 onwards - 3x a week Chinese. Hope she can converse in Mandarin soon! -

Not bad, my two kids p5 & k2 are doing well with Hua cheng now, no regret.GyGy:
I find it's neighbour Hua Cheng is good.
Hua Cheng's method is very dry. Not suitable for everyone. -
What is hua Cheng?

What is hua Cheng?
Hua Cheng is another chinese education center, which has other branches at thomson and eastpoing. I only tried the one at Bukit Timah Plaza at the same floor as xue lin, as just fit to my time. Here is the link: http://www.huachengeducation.com.sg/ -
Pixy: My P2 attended 2 lessons with Xuelin; compre(last minute slotted in due to my KS-ism :imcool: ) and this week lesson for compo. My gal enjoys their lessons very much but doesn’t like the newspaper reading
. Her teacher tells me to give her time.
I really like their compo materials. I thot it’s simple but after talking to the teacher, I realized that it’s the teacher who makes the different! Not just in getting the kids to be interested in Chinese but also the effective transfer of knowledge! The kids learn from basic and going forward, their foundation for writing should be real solid! At least now I know now that my children have no need to 背作文! :rahrah: Just need to memorise the good phrases and use in context. The lady boss is telling me, it’s like memorizing the multiplication table for maths.
As for the paper 2,my P2 just enjoys it, looking forward to go to Xuelin. So far for the 2 lessons, at least I find the driving is all worthwhile. My P2’s feedback for the 1st lesson is that they dun have to do a lot of homework yet she can learns a lot. I will continue to monitor!
I just hope that they will continue to engage the kids and having good teachers. Kudos to Mao Lao Shi; half my battle won! :boogie: -

Lim_KS: Thanks for your feedback. So they have 2 type of classes for P2 - compo and Paper 2?
Interesting that they have a "formula" to help students write essays, and how they teach kids. I dont really need to revise the words with my daughter, and she can remember all of them. -
Pixy: No, they have only 1 type of class. It's just that they rotate the class. We started with lesson 11 which has compre component. The following week, lesson 12 is compo writing. I worried that my gal can't cope with the 1st lesson being writing class thus I slotted in last min to prepare her for XL's class.
Yes, agreed! They do have a \"formula\" to help students. My P2 really likes them very much, still talking about it all day long today!I only hope that they can sustain! FYI,They are very creative; I believe you will like their holiday program. I \"chopped \" 4 seats for my gals and my sister's.VooVoo:
lim_ks:
I will be sending mine to Xuelin, already \"chopped\" a place as they are limited placements. She will be doing a 5 days reading program with compo fundamental writing for a duration of 3 hr & 45 mins. I have seen the selected books; something like Diary of the Wimpy's Kid but in Chinese. After speaking to them, I agree with their rationale of doing this program. Many kids dun read Chinese books thus having very limited vocab, good content and good sentence structure. They will have interesting curriculum to engage kids and later translate into writing. I thot this is very necessary for my children. Very Ks but no choice.
So this holiday program is on reading and compo?lim_ks:
VooVoo: Yes, the program is about reading certain good extracts of selected books/ certain newspaper articles depending on level. The 2nd half is about writing, objective is to refine the writing using the vocab, contents and sentence structure learnt earlier. I thought it's very interesting to engage the kids and they are taking in only 20 kids per level (I heard it's 10 in the morning and 10 in the afternoon!) What I like about them is that their class size is very small! That is why I have to \"chopped\" a place for my gals and my sister's.

Could you recommend?
Thanks.
