Wow, the fee hike is really a lot!

Did they justify the fee increase?
Like why it's inevitable for this increase
to take place especially now when it's not
even half a year thru 2012 yet? So much for
          having more children uh?

          1. Fee increase in practically most preschool/childcare set ups.
          2. High mortgage costs especially for newly-weds and first time parents to be.
          3. All children in car seats / boosters ruling making it impossible to drive a sedan with 4 kids!

            pinkapple04:
My girl at Serangoon Preschool and she take school bus too, no interactions with other parents. So seems like the school will go ahead with it, in fact I had send 2 emails regards to this issue.....with no response. That's made me more mad

My girl is also at Serangoon Preschool. I have also sent in 2 emails but no reply.. really hopping mad :stompfeet:

I am seriously considering to change school.

From the newspaper report, other preschools are increasing by 3 to 6%. So 25% increase is 5 times more.

Like someone wrote earlier, no observable increase in hours is planned to accompany the 25% increase.

Unfortunately, my child is already in Kinderland. If she was in Nursery, I'd still have options of changing schools. 😞 But unfortunately, she isn't.

I am disappointed in this school, which has established itself for so many years. Even if they do not reply, I will still write in to express my dissatisfaction.

My super big Q is WHy at this time of the year?! Doesn’t there any guidelines from MOE or MCYS for increase of school fees in private schools?!

I had also write in to MOE in regards to this matter, hopefully I had found the correct channel to voice out!

I think whether the school reply or not, parents with children already with Kinderland should keep writing in.

Thank you Pinkapple for writing in to MOE to clarify why such increases are allowed. I’d be interested in finding out what their response is. Perhaps the TODAY newspaper reporter can do some investigative reporting!! I’m sure readership would increase on this matter.

Yes, I agree with Pinkapple. Parents please write in to the school and sign your name. If you speak to the principal, he or she can only convey a watered-down message to the owners of Kinderland.

This is because the Principal is still an employee of the large organization and when the owners of Kinderland hear directly from the parents…they will understand what is happening on the ground. Middle management is often caught in between.

Let’s do everyone a favour and speak up…politely, in a level-headed, reasonable fashion of course.

In the other thread, some people suggested these ideas. I have some counterarguments if you care to read them. 🙂

                    1) \"If parents are unhappy about the fees, then they should change schools\".

                    Counter-argument:
How do you find another school to change to in the middle of the year?
Most preschools are filled. At least the preschools that are comparable with Kinderland and have similar quality.

Management's potential response: You may choose to attend PAP.

                    2) \"Everything is more expensive now, so the school is justified to increase fees\"

                    Counter-argument:
I suppose when the kopitiam increase tea from 80cents to $1, that is also 20 percent increase. People can afford 20 cents more.

But when the base amount is $1290, and the new price is $1610. then the difference you have to fork out is much more.

If you have twins or you have 2 kids in the school, you are hit twice.

Management's response: There is the sibling discount.
Rebuttal: Current sibling discount of 10% is not being increased, is it?

                    3) \"The school needs to hire more teachers, and they are more highly qualified\"

                    Counterargument:
When are teacher contracts signed? If they hire in the new year, wouldn't it be more reasonable to increase in 2013?

Management's response: We do our annual review in the middle of the year.
Rebuttal: Do teachers get increment in the middle of the year?

Yes we should speak up (afterall we are the ones paying) politely and reasonably!

Please help yourself and those parents that already stuck… I just want fairness.

$320.00 per child is Hxxx lots of money the school will be collecting in Term 3!
