In most cases it is people with vested interest that would have opinions - the rest couldn't care less e.g. foreigners who already are in phase 3 of the registration process. We are applauding the SC priority move because we are Singaporeans, isn't it?

In the same vein, I am also making noise because I am priced out of the property market. There are many contributors to the current ridiculous property prices and obviously, one of them is proximity to popular schools - that on the other hand, affects a large proportion of the SCs because of our high property ownership rates. There are plenty of parents who move nearer to the schools that they want their children to enroll in (obviously, these are people with the resources). Where I live, there are no primary schools within 1km.

I am also making noise about the PV scheme because of the lack of transparency. While I am not a PV myself because I see it as exploitation but I know plenty of people who are doing PVs for the sake of their children and its just ridiculous to me.

agree - as I've posted before, its only the few popular schools that is causing so much grief... the rest of the schools in SG don't have many places filled up by alumni/old boys/old gals anyway so its people who cannot get their children into these few popular schools that are making so much noise.......

IMHO, this is national education policy which affects all SCs. So even if the numbers might be small, the policy still has to uphold its purpoe of national interest and needs constant review and when necessary, to react in a timely manner by changing the policy if recent progresses caused the situation to deviate from its original intention.

On this same note, even when PRs in our schools were just 10%, I am glad that the Ministry didn't think the figure is too small and brush it off. Instead, I applaued the Ministry's move to allow SCs priority.

Our active discussion allows us to voice our friendly views on this topic. The discussion embraces all forumers whichever side you stand. We must agree to disagree and not term others as \"...making so much noise..\".

Vested interest or not isn't important if the discussion focus on the merits or demerits of the issue. Since it is national policy and an important issue, certain degree of fairness, transparancy is expected and that people are also keen to discuss it so have an open mind and we could hear and learn from each other.

I respect your decision on not joining PV and your opinion on \"proximity\" and property prices. These are not \"noises\" to me but a true reflection of how you view the system.

Although not important, I am sure not all of us here argued for personal reason.

which is why just basing on proximity may not be fair as well since it is an advantage that can be bought.

that's why as i have posted before, the fairest system would be to put all the names into the computer system and let FATE decide which school your child shd go to because no one will have any advantage over another. šŸ™‚

well, if u don't have a school going age (or soon to be going to school age) child you won't even be on this forum to begin with - why would you want to participate in the discussion?

Vested interest for me means no change to existing procedures.

But I still feel we shd limit 2A. šŸ˜‰

Yes some of us have school going age child and perhaps some not. Some have vasted interest but some are just genuinely interested and wants to voice their opinion. Whatever the background should not matter as long as the discussion focus on the merits or demerits of the policy. šŸ˜„

The creator of this thread is actually not that young already.... :siam: I doubt he have any kids going to Primary school when he started this thread..

Vested interest.. Yes.. bcoz we're all citizens/residents of this country and we're concerned about the national education program. :rahrah:

as for the point that you mentioned....

You'll know whether your assumption is valid if you go thru the whole thread.. šŸ˜‰ šŸ˜‰

Er.. actually, except phase 1, there's a cap on every phases--including 2A. Just so happened that so far, the quota for P2A had never been filled up (ie no. of applicants under 2A were always < places allocated for 2A) so whoever applied under this phase had been successful.

Here I go again repeating myself like a broken recorder at almost the same time that I posted yesterday to laughincat's similar comments!

PLS!!! If u really feel that this is funny, it is NOT. N Really, if what you say really happens, then no more chances for 2B n 2C. N u consider it a cap to 2A!
