Difference people different needs. That's why there are childcare centres and kindergardens and enrichment centres. 😄
      You're absolutely right! 😄

SAHMs and FTWMs. Different lifestyles/mindsets, different needs!

I am happy to know that you and I actually share same views towards growing ups for our gals. LIke you I had homeschooled my girl until she was 4. I sent her to Kinderland at K1. I did not sent her for any enrichment except music (I think that's important for character building) and ballet. Till now we will do things together every afternoon and outings every weekends.

But I think you should start your gal piano before P1 because to have the habits of practising piano is important and she might feel stressful coping P1 and Piano together.
        pinkapple04,

Glad to hear that someone share the same views as me too. My life also revolves around my girl. Haha.. We do everything together too. Are you a SAHM too? 😄

I also feel that music is essential as i think it will help to build up patience in my girl's case. Last year my girl had been pestering me for ballet. I signed her up at Crestar but we had an unpleasant experience there. We found another school but they would only take her in from March 2012 based on age requirement. In the end I got preggy and now I need to wait for the next enrolment. But now my girl tells me she prefers piano instead! She has been having fun with the keyboard in school for the past few months I guess. I found a few schools but most are only willing to take in from 4.5 years old onwards which will be after June 2012. So now I am thinking if I should wait till she's in K2, since you think Primary One will be a little late?

I guess if I really withdraw from Kinderland then I would enrol her for piano from K2.

I started working as part time morning when I put my gal in Kinderland I will start doing things with her around 1pm. Does that makes me a SAHM too? 😂

Mine gal is in Crestar Kovan for ballet. Our 1st encounter with the Teacher (now left) for baby ballet was bad and I had to transfer my gal to another class and since then she has been progressing well with this Teacher that can really handle kids (though she look kind of stern). :imanangel:

I sent my gal to Semipi School of Music (not sure if you hear of this school) at age 2+ and started individual piano at 4. She likes music alot and she actually request to learn violin as well. But again music needs practising even if it is only 5 to 15 mins daily.

You may want more details if you are interested in the schools.

            pinkapple04,

SAHM or PTWM 🙂 But how did you manage that? How about school holidays? But it's a great way to pass time!

My girl used to go to the branch at Thomson Plaza but the teacher was not good with kids. Many of the kids were shy and left out but the teacher did not encourage them to join in. I heard of Seimpi but they don't have a branch near me. I am currently looking at Yamaha or Magic Fiddler. I guess I better settle this school issue before signing her up for music. 🙂

              Hi pinkapple04,

Sorry to intrude your conversation, but can you share more on Seimpi for infant / toddler? What do they do in class, fees, nos of students in the class, etc? Mind to share?

DS is attending PSALMS music for babies, he enjoys music a lot, but the class is only 30mins long, gone with just a blink of eye. And I had to bring him quite a distance away, the to and fro journey is already longer than the class duration. LOL

                Hi lovexuan

I have begin to prepare my gal to do things on her own for about 2 hours. I’ve set time table for her when I am not back from work eg. She will be back from school aroung 11.30am so she will learn to put her bag at designated place then self practise piano and violin, lunch then assessment books or self reading.

During school holidays, I will set time table similar to above too. I will do flashcards, arts and crafts, cards games or blocks with her in the afternoon.

                Hi izmum,

I am most willing to share with you. Seimpi baby music is 45 mins per week and fees was less than $150 per month. Min 6 to Max 8 per class. My info may not be updated as my gal was in baby music 2 years ago, you may wish to go to their website for detail.

I have just received the revised fee plan from Kinderland today. The school will phase the intended increase in fees over 18 months for existing children. The new fee for existing children will be $1,390, effective Term 3 2012. And subsequently, the fee will be adjusted to $1,500 from Term 1 2013, and finally increased to $1,610 from Term 1 2014. There are also mention of additional educational resources, new furniture & paintwork, computer upgrades which will take place in Jun this year.

I am, however, disappointed that there are still no action taken to increase the school hours. Most of the Preschool that I know of are already on a 4-hour program but Kinderland is still doing a 3-hour program. And personally, I feel that 3 hours in school is not enough for effective learning, expecially for K2. But having said that, I am glad that the school has taken steps to address our concerns on the school fees.

I prefer a 3-hr programme. I want my children to enjoy their childhood and that means, other than going to school, I want them to have time to play and have plenty of rest.

I agree with you that children must enjoy their childhood and have plenty of time to play and rest. That is the reason why we choose a Preschool instead of Childcare. They will get to play after school and have plenty of rest at home 😄

However, in my opinion, a 3-hour programme is not enough for effective learning. Do note that they have half an hour of snack / lunch time in school, which is also part of the programme. And more often than not, the teachers are unable to follow the timetable strictly due to unforeseen circumstances. I have, in fact, witness classes starting late many times due to children crying or with other interruptions... As such, I feel that an additional hour will give both the teachers and children more time to facilitate learning. This will be especially helpful for the K2 children who are preparing for Primary 1 in the following year.

                        Cheers,
