All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Hi ebebel,
Hi ZeusZeus:
I am new to the PV system and have the following doubts, hope that some seasoned parents able to shed some light to the following questions:
1) I wish to apply for PV in the primary schools. Unfortunately, me and my wife are working 5-1/2 days week. Are most working couple required to apply leave for the PV as the activities often fall on a weekday?
2) Am I allow to reject a PV after applying for it?
Any feedback is well appreciated ~ KS yet confused Dad. :?:
Thank you.
I'll try and answer your questions, ya?
1) So far all the parents I met at PV jobs hold full time jobs and they all took leave (me too) for PV work on weekdays. There are also a few SAHM who had to arrange for childcare (those with younger children) so they could come.
2) Yes you can drop out later, usually the schools have over-subscribed number of PVs so they wouldn't stop you from dropping out. For SAJS, if you reject three consecutive jobs without a 'valid' reason (eg. sick, overseas, etc), they drop YOU out of the list automatically! :scared:
I also have a friend who decided not to apply at a school after completing the 40 hours of PV... take it as a service for the community and school bah...
Thank you for your reply. By the way, may I know what is the definition of SAJS, sorry pretty new in this forum.
Just like to share with the K.S parents here about 1 incident. I have contacted one of the primary schools in the West. When the lady who answered my call heard about my 5-1/2 days work, her exact words were \"then how are you going to apply for PV?\". I was actually turn off by the way she put her message through. I have since applied PVs with other schools and currently waiting for reply. -

I have done PV before and both myself and my wife are working full time. As some of the `jobs' are in the early morning before office hours, we just took a couple of hours off in the morning.
There was also 1 job in which I took 2.5 days of leave (5 days of 1/2 afternoon leave) as they needed to conduct a stock take of PE equipment. Good thing is the school allows for either parent to PV so my wife and me just take turns.
You are certainly allow to reject for whatever reason. The school would anyway have a list of PVon standby to take over your slot if you choose to drop out...in fact, I'm sure the awaiting parents will be delighted!
Fortunately or unfortunately, after I spent 40 hrs in the school, I decided not to send my child to the school. It was through the PV that i understood the school and its system better and decided its not what I want my child to go through.
Thank you for sharing. I agree with you. It's a good thing that parents can take turns for PV. Btw, I am amazed by some of the PV forms in which appears to be very detailed. They require you to fill in your chinese name (if applicable) and even the institute that you studied in.
Anyway I have submitted my forms and now just pray for the best.

Hi Angelsky,
Believed that PV for most schools at this point of time is for 2007 kids.
Cheers.

Congrats. Some schools send letter, others just inform eligible parents (ie those who completed) to turn up during the 2B registration. DS school sent letter to tell us when 2B was going to be, but it was not a letter I had to produce since they have records in the office.
All the best! -
