Comparing Chinese Enrichment (Primary/Preschool)
-
My son has been with Jiang since the beginning of the year - P1 -3 hr lesson. Seems his standard is ok & ahead of school work. They have 4 books cater for reading, comprehension, hypy, writing etc. As I don’t know Chinese, he has to depend more on himself for revision. So far so good as initially I am worried how he could stay for 3 hrs and he has never complained so far of the long duration.

If you read the Xue Lin thread, most parents say Xue Lin is good for upper pri and above. They give challenging material.
IMHO, tien hsia or berries are targeted more at pre-primary to primary levels.
However, if your standard is already quite low, you may want to consider personal tuition or group tuition to focus on the school work coz Xue lin or tien hsia are enrichment centres not tuition centres.
You need a tutor who can strengthen your foundation. You may not be able to catch up at enrichment centres. -
SP72:
Hi SP72,i am keen into enrolling my p5 and p6 (next yr) to molin or Hua cheng language centre.
Any feedback on these 2 centres??
Would like to share with you my experience with Hua Cheng.
I have tried Hua Cheng @ Bukit timah Plaza for last two terms for my P5 boy and K2 girl. My son was in HAN previously, but not much promising progress. I changed to Hua Cheng as recommended by one friend whose son did very well for his PSLE.
From the recent result of the CA1 of my P5 DS, I got big encourage to continue both my son's enrichment and writing classes in Hua Cheng. Since this term, the chinese CA1 in his school was quite difficult and most of the students can feel a big gap comparing to it before and got big drops in the result. My son was able to keep the same level (80/95) and his position actually went up a bit. During his two times a week tuitions in Hua cheng, I can see that he had made a good progress in his foundation parts spelling and comprehension which he was a bit weak before.
While my daughter also enjoyed the chinese class, she was looking forward to join it every Saturday right after her \"I CAN READ\" english class at the same BT Plaza. I felt she loved the chinese class a bit more, since she stood a chance to get a gift when her \"apple tree\" was full of fruits. There is a campaign in the class called \"我努力,我收获\", who may be rewarded with an \"apple\" when done well.
If you are still keen to look for a chinese enrichment class, I recommend you to talk to the responsible teacher Ms. Kuang, who is a quite experienced teacher and mainly in charge of P5 and P6 classes. -
I recommend Xuelin! My sec 1 went for his 1st lesson last week and enjoyed it thoroughly! I like their materials, very current; using the newspaper. I even went to match with the actual copy of the newspaper just to be sure that’s it’s word for word! Very paranoid! but just want to be sure cos in the past, once bittewn twice shy.
I really feel that I am sending my son to the right place. The teacher told me that his foundation is not strong and suggested him to come in when his & her time permit, she will help him to catch up for few lessons!
My sec 3 is still trying hard to figure her time to Xuelin. It seems that they are quite full and can’t accomodate my doter’s schedule. Still trying… -
I have been thinking of sending my P1 & K1 to TienHsia due to the travel distance needed to Xuelin. From Thomsom to Katong! However after sending my P2 to Xuelin for 2 lessons, I believe it’s worthwhile if they can keep my gal’s passion for learning Chinese burning!! It’s not an easy to substain, once they have a lousy teacher for a given year; that’s IT! Gone…My gal looks forward to Xuelin’s class and her feedback for the 1st lesson is that they dun have to do a lot of homework yet she can learns a lot… Thus I am arranging with them to open P2, P1 and K1 simultaneously. Seems difficult but I am still pushing…

It’s tough to decide whether to send to Xuelin especially when they are so new and so expensive. It’s only after seeing my friends’ kids PSLE result(2011) that I make up my mind to try out 1 term. No regret & continue term2 as you will find them(top down from boss to teachers!) very sincere & most importantly the kids learn and enjoy the classes, quote from my P4. I was very fearful that they let the children copy answer but when I review my children worksheets; there are mistakes and corrections are needed! At least, I am assured they are learning:-)

Amomm: Thank you! I was still "头痛" about my P1 and K1 till your input! Look like I am fated to be driver and send them to XL after all. After reading your tread about booking 5 seats for the holiday program, at least I know I am on the right track. I will continue to "pester" them to open the P1’s.
