Looks like the top schools are having their Open Houses on the same day again this year, same as the past few years.

        same day for open house

        same day for GAT

        same day for selection tests/camp

        same day for interview

        great conspiracy

Quite good actually because it forces the students and parents to make a decision early on which school they really want to get in to. Saves them the agony of choosing a second choice DSA CO only to regret it when their PSLE results are much better than expected.

But the Open Houses will be quite a mad rush if you intend to cover 2 or more schools in one day.
I remember one of my DS1's classmates' mother told me that she 'made' her son 'gave up' his DSA for NUSHS to take HCI DSA as both fall on the same day. In the end, he didn't even get WL for HCI & the mum almost freak out when she received the DSA results ... but he's lucky he still got into HCI through his PSLE results. πŸ˜“

It unfair for the GE students to only attend one DSA as PSLE is unfair to them in the first place since they only get to start preparing after June. They must be given chances to attend some. Base on last year DSA thread, not all GE students are offered CO and some waitlists did not materialize in the end.
So it is true that GEP students only prepare for PSLE after June ? No wonder I heard that some of them didn't do well in PSLE .... πŸ˜“

            HCI DSA process

            http://www.hci.edu.sg/admissions/high_school/admission-routes#gep

            Open house : 19 May 2012 , 8 am - 1:30pm

May I know for GEP students to apply via DSA to HCI, are they looking at their results from P4 or P5 onwards ? Roughly what percentage for all subjects are they looking at ? I just saw RI needs > 80% in order for GEP not to take GAT, otherwise, those below have to take GAT entry test.

HCI does not need Pri 4 result for DSA, unless they change policy this year

My fren did the other way round: gave up HCI DSA to go for NUSHS camp. Reason HCI was only 1st round (for mainstreamer) at that week, whilst NUSHS her DS has already gotten thru the 1st round of test and into 2nd round of camp. Finally still did not get NUSHS.

I personally think most important is not the DSA, but rather to work hard at the PSLE results. With good results, no worries about sch acceptance which is purely based on the T-score of the kid!

If the dates clash, you can also call up and ask for an alternative date (unless that test/activity is held only once). I did that for my daughter last year and the school was very understanding. They know that most students apply for more than one DSA.
Always thought the schools plan it as such so the kids/parents r forced to decide on the choice of school instead of later rejecting them if both sch offer CO

You can't be sure that the one you choose will offer you a place! Anyway, no harm asking. I wasn't sure the school would entertain my request, but was pleasantly surprised when I said the test clashed with another school's test (which was the only date available), and I was immediately given an alternative date.
Can reveal the name of the sch tat entertained yr request?

This could be the reason why NUS High's open house was last Saturday - 31st March; way ahead of last year (which crashed with the MO held in HCI) - to avoid \"crashing\" with other open house etc.

For other documentation such as awards and certificate, do we

need to get the sxh to ceritfy as true copied?

What if the certificate was issued by former sch cdo we stll request the current sch to
                      Certify the doc?

What if the academic achievements are in the form of trophy and not certs, do wr take photos and get the sch to certify the photo as well?

                      Can someone advise?
