Hi Picolo,

Pei Hwa doesn’t have affiliation…that is very stressful bcos our kids have to compete with those who have affiliated sec. The COP is much lower for thise mids. But in recent years, the COP for some with affiliated sec has risen. My daughter’s school has just increased (those in P6 this year get affected).

But focus on my older one first…he must work very hard bcos this is Dragon year and there are MORE kids who have to compete.

I used to think that Scary's nick is such cos she finds it's scary to go for balloting. I stand corrected. Now I know it's because she scares other parents with her dedication for her son.

You also prefer no exam? Great! Another supporter. No exam is good as at that age, many kids are extremely careless and the exam outcome may not be a true reflection of a child's effort.

I prefer no exams at P1, but for a different reason.

(1) If there's streaming I'm pretty sure this ds will be streamed to the top, but he will lose the opportunity in P2 to learn to be kinder, more compassionate and graceful. Very hard for me to explain this but I have seen the change in my older boy with my own eyes. In P1, he had two buddies who were weaker in studies to look after, and he was very kind and helpful and I really appreciate his thoughtfulness. But come P2, in the top class, while he learnt to be more competitive which I think is good, he no longer wanted to help his classmates anymore in P2 cos the environment was so competitive, you just had to work harder so as not to be the one to need assistance. So, I support no streaming in P1 for stronger character building.

(2) I'm stressed enough with the older kids' exams, so, no thanks to MORE!

(3) This is subjective, but I think exams does help to move the kids up the learning curve of reducing careless mistakes faster. They can also feel the pinch mah... otherwise their parents will make sure they do :rotflmao:

Good point Picolo . How can one teach patience when one doesn't exhibit it? Just like I have zilch leadership quality, so I can't teach leadership to my son.

I have a 2007 ds1 and I am thinking of registering him into phpps. I callEd the school to enquire abt pv but was just told to send an email with my child’s particulars and wait for a reply. Do u know if there willl be an application form to be filled in later? Or does it actually mean we don’t stand a chance? Thanks! I am actually an alumni of a gals school but my no 1 is a boy! Keke

Long weekend is over…batteries kinda charged for the week ahead. Daughter has show & tell this Wed. Can’t wait for it to this to be over to focus on CL oral next. Next public holiday is Labour Day and Vesak Day.

Scary, the formula of \"more nagging, screaming and spanking\" does not help in curing carelessness. You better try sth else :siam: before you get burnt out first.

Though I dont believe in corporal punishment, I will punish the books by jabbing the pages with my pen - corresspondingly raising my pitch at the same time - when I feel that ds is displaying lackluster attitude despite me putting effort to teach him after a long day at work. So I more than understand what Scary is going thru.

Easier said than done. But Scary, just monitor that the occasional spanking does not mould your smart son into passiveness due to the fear of getting punished for making mistakes while trying new things. This would be regrettable for an intelligent child like yours.

Having wars in my house is a regular thing but I never spank my Ds cos my sch work...spanking is only for rude/ dangerous acts.. N that is after warnings r given first..

The residents in my block will know WHEN I revise is/are/was/were etc etc. With my older one, they will know WHEN I get him to do synthesis. :evil: I lost track of the number of times I have reminded him to be careful :mad: ...one missing alphabet or word means the whole answer is wrong. No partial marks given. The other reason why I scream is bcos of his ugly/untidy handwriting.[/quote]Same same here...super ugly doctor style handwriting..cannot even spot his own silly mistakes! :frustrated:

Then I am imparting good lifeskill- I will put down the book, tell him to go do sth else, later we continue.

He will be heavily penalized if handwriting is ugly or illegible. Told him many many times...examiner will mark wrong if answer is questionable :stompfeet:
My cane is used when kids tell lies, rude and throw tantrums.

I actually think you're a bit late to be applying for PV now since your son is 2007 child. Chances are all the available vacancies would have been taken by now. Better to have plan B. Good luck.
