I can understand.. it is quite tough to be working and have two young and sick children at home... definitely not a situation I would like to be caught in as well....

I guess sometimes when we look for schools, got to set our priorities first.. because there is no perfect school.. we find the best school in a package according to our needs lah..

The way i see it though, if you resolve the immunity level of your kid, you dun only solve the school problem, you resolve many other problems inlong run as well...

thinking of it in a more positive note.. this stage of getting alittle sick for a few mths is worth it to build up their immune system... cos I have also met children who are super well protected.. so well protected that inthe end, the protection became an inhibition to their growth and improvement in their health as well.... cos they have zero immunity...

does your child like sweet drinks? Do you allow her to drink cold drinks and fizzy drinks like coke or even ribena? It is also helpful to take them off sweet and cold drinks cos the sugar level will shut down the immunse system.. the amt of sugar in a can of coke can shut the immune system for up to 9 hours....

hahaha.. i wonder how you look like and if i have met you before:) But I guess not.. cos I only sort of recognize the parents from my son's class.. but i think you will recognize my hubby if you often hang around.. he is the one without hair in navy uniform.. my son tellsme the kids say he is a policeman.. hahahahaha

guess i will see you at the concert then:) since you are a first time parent at the concert.; share with you some tips...

arrive earlier.. they have photos outside of the concert hall that you can order.. they were taken during rehearsal.... go in early.. so tat you can grab a good seat tat is close enough to take nice pics. woudl be helpful if you asked the teachers in advance which side of the stage yoru daughter is usually standing in... I think the jus kids have got a lovely uniform this year!

      Love
      Angel

      Hi verityy,

wow! it is great to finally find a parent whose child is also in the same school. And thanks for sharing your view of the school. I actually spoke to Mrs Ho as I plan to stop my gal from school for 1 month, hoping that she will regain back her normal immunity. But I brought her in today as Mrs Ho told me to let her attend the full dress rehearsal as well as the concert this friday as my gal, despite missing almost the entire month of lessons in October, already knows what to do...well, so i sent her in this morning eventhough she still has some cough. Hope she doesn't get infected with another virus or bacteria just by being in school today! really praying very hard.

As for the chinese teachers, there are 5 in total. And the english speaking ones (excluding mrs ho), there are 4. I have met all of them as i normally hang around to chit chat in the morning or when i pick her up if i have the time. Also to kpo abit u see... thats why i was saying the chinese teachers outweigh the english ones. But this it NOT the reason why i am worried and looking for other CC....its the AIRCON and the fact that my child is falling sick non stop since July. She started in April. It is not once a month.... this round, she went back to school for only 3 days...... down with high fever again.... the flu virus became laryngitis. My 12 mth son is now infected...starting to cough 😞 and i Have to postpone his vaccination again. I just ran to the PD this lunch break for my boy. Last week, ran to PD twice for my gal. I am really tired. and my work is severely affected.

I visited 1 CC (also in a bungalow setting) last friday with my hb. It is non-aircon. I am extremely impressed with what the principal told me about this SINGLE policy - she does not feed any medicine which parents will bring in unless there is a doctor's letter certifying the kid is fit for school but still require medication. Could be sensitive nose etc. SHe will also not accept students with very serious and phelgmy cough or with running nose. SHe will quarantine them in the office and call the parents to pick the kids up. Some parents cannot accept such policy so she will set parent's expectation before they sign up. When we visited ( i was there for almost 2 hours), i did not see or hear a single child coughing or with running nose. But their earliest vacancy is only mid Feb/Mar next year 😞 Other than that, why both hb and myself are having 2nd thoughts is that when we look at the teachers, we felt rather \"sian\".....abit auntie auntie type...also the curriculum is definitely not as interesting as kinderland. So I wonder is it becoz Kinderland teachers are in uniform? that's why i have a better impression? hahahaha...but Justkids teachers are very young perhaps that's why i feel they are more lively and energetic...that's why i was impressed?

Since they have no vacancy, my hb prefers not to change my gal... we wanna wait and see whether her health will improve after this 1 month break.

Oh, for the H1N1 case, I received a phone call as well. I was referring to the HFMD case in May. Qie Lau Si called me up a few days later to apologize and admitted that they mishandled the case coz both Mrs Ho and herself were overseas during hte period...blah blah blah...said their protocol was to CALL up each parent as well. They did not call me at all u see. And I spoke to the teachers in the evening the day before. ANyway, the episode is over and fair enuff, they called me up when they had the H1N1.

I am happy with her form teacher in Justkids 1 and other things. My only concern is her Health. COz I see kids with mucous. FOr eg, during her 1st day, I accompanied her. Another kid in Justkids 2, with mucous dripping, used his spoon, scooped his food and pour it in my gal's bowl. The teachers did not see it. I saw it. I had to ask for a change for a new bowl of food. It is common when I send my child in to see parents bringing in a big bag of medication to get the teachers to feed. No questions asked...just filled up a form and the teachers will feed. I always hear kids with lots of phelgm coughing and running around...or those sneezing with a lot of mucous. And I wonder will aircon make the spread of all these illnesses easier?

I also like the school in all other aspects EXCEPT this sick children and medication issue. So it is very tough for me to really change the school coz i like the place as well.... now I just hope my gal's health and immune system will get better.....

yes I am very interested in the health food..... i will drop u an email. thank you πŸ™‚

Oh yes, just to add are you a believer of holistic health?:P For me, because I am a detox specialist tat specializes in holistic solutions for the body, I tend to adopt a holistic view towards things rather than a scientific medical science view....

If you are, then you might want to explore this.... i have suggested this many times to my friends and used it myself and found it very useful:)

        5 min suggestion
Our children's conscious mind only makes up like 3% of their mind.. most of their minds are part of the subconscious mind and unconscious mind.. which is many more times stronger... just before we sleep and when we just wake up is when the sub conscious mind is most receptive to input of new info... so you can input positive info and repeat a few affirmations again and again for 5 min before your girl sleeps every nite...

As physical problems are also usually related to psychological aspects of our mind, physical symptoms usually signify wat are minds are thinking of.. fever is usually related to some form of anger and langarythis related to some form of fear of speaking up and anger towards authority. (Are you, your mum or her father very strict towards her?)

Eg: You are a very healthy and happy girl. You are peaceful and you are being loved. You are free to ask for what you want. You enjoy being healthy and being at peace.

You should see some improvement within 1-4 weeks:)

PS: u dun have to do it or follow if you dun believe in holistic approaches.. I just shared it becos i tot it might be helpful for you πŸ™‚

            Hi Pea

Yes Brighton Montessori is very reputable..... i heard it is a good school but very expensive fees πŸ™‚

Hehe i'm not sure if my son is having a healthy childhood ...but i do know that he is enjoying his personal space πŸ™‚ He is doing a lot of \"free play \" at the moment .... but i hope he knows that one fine day he will have to just sit down & learn ...
Can anyone let me know what is good about Brighton Montessori? Seems like no one go to NTUC childcare at Bedok? No feedback? Any good tuition class for English course too, can recommend, how much is school fees? :?:

Original Title: Pre-schools in east - monthly fees about $500

                  Hi

I need advice on good pre-school for my daughter who is turning 18 months soon. It will be good if the school incorporates montessori teaching too. My budget is about S$500 a month.

Currently, my daughter is taken care of by my mum who lives in Bedok. Can anyone kindly advice or has any recommendation? I am looking at half-day session only, preferrably afternoon session.

                  Thanks
                  Hui

                    Hi Hui,

My son just turned 22 mths so I’ve been shopping for good pre-schools for him. I stay Kembangan so I’ve visited/talked to Principals/observed class/Trial/read brochures etc for these schools: Charis Montessori at Jalan Masjid (near kembangan mrt), Brighton Montessori (Frankel), Bethesda (Katong) Kindergarten, Etonhouse (Mountbatten), Montessori for Children (Broadrick or near Mountbatten), Chiltern House (Big Splash), Zoophonics (Siglap), Fastrackids (Frankel) & couple more…$500 can get u a pretty good half day session, however, for 18ths, I don’t think the schools allow the tots to attend the sessions by themselves unless you’re looking at a Childcare Centre. At 18mths, it’s normally Parent-Tot class not more than 2hrs each and up to 3x a week only at Pre-schools (or at least for all the above I’ve visited). Among the above, I’m highly impressed by Bethesda. Dedicated Principal and very nice envt, great curriculum too.

My son will go to Charis Montessori twice a week, 2 hrs each as it’s a christian pre-school & I like the character-building lessons + some Montessori. Main thing is, the school is β€˜cheap’ & having done a trial class, my boy was very happy there. It’s a bit small but I think a Christian environment and Christian values are more important for him right now. Personally, I don’t think all that highly of Montessori. Some Montessori schs employ mostly Sri Lankan/Indian AMI trained teachers & students look bored & miserable. Etonhouse good but super ex.

                      Hi Surfermom

Good to know that you are impressed w Bethesda Katong Kindergarten. I've signed my child for next year's N2 after i read rave reviews about the kindy in other forum ... Since my child has not started, I can't comment on the standard of the kindy altho i did have a good feel after speaking with the Principal... and as i understand, this kindy is always \"full-house\" .. Let's hope this is the right choice i've made for my child πŸ™‚

Will you be sending your child in when she turns 3 ?

I do not hv the terms of condition of withdrawal & refund for Bethesda Bedok-Tampines - however i understand that usually for withdrawal , we have to give 1 month's written notice.
Can u share why you wanna withdraw your child? Actually i was previously considering between Bethesda Bedok-Tampines & Bethesda Katong as well as St Hilda's .. but in the end i signed up with Bethesda Katong. Thought Bethesda bedok-Tampines also not bad.
