System nowaday has no childhood. GEP add more stress. Like him to learn more but hurt to c them burn out all energy. Even want to ask is CCA a compulsory. Would rather not if possible.

Personally I would prefer all project works and school work and homework be done during curriculum hours and in school… then my child can just take part in CCA and come home and have lots of time for whatever they would like to do… be it reading, music lesson, watch a good movie, play with neighbourhood friends, time just sitting there to dream… Then when in Secondary school it would be full day in school filled with all kinds of work and CCA and when they get back they still have homework etc. I believe kids should still be kids… they learn very good social skills… lifeskills thru play too.

Same here! Better for kids to complete most project in school, guided by the teachers instead of bringing home and then parents try to figure out the expectation.

As for CCA, I'm all for it!! Really surprise me that parents dun want their children to have CCA. My kids have CCA since P1 and they enjoy going for it. Think that's the time when they really take their mind of school work. Of course, if u join some sports and dei-die must be the gold medallist, then it's a diff story.

In work, when I'm recruiting, I focus alot of CCA. It tells alot more on their leadership quality, EQ

Me too. My kids have CCA since P1 even though it is not compulsory. And also a chance to extend their social skills to befriend kids from other classes, levels.

Hi TwaTau, can I check with you. Is there any orientation for GEP student who goes in to HP? & when will we know that which school he’ll be posted to? Will be going for holiday in early Dec… not sure if it’ll clash with the orientation if there’s any. Not sure if i’ll get chance to check with the HP’s rep. Am afraid might be swamp with parents…

Wrt RGPS, can anyone enlighten me :

                    1. Is GEP in the morning session ? What are the school hrs ?
                    2. How often do GEPers @ RGPS have to stay back after school?
                    3. Is homework completed mostly in school or at home ?

                    Thanks!

I have been very stressed over GEP. dd was very sure she did not want to take it up until she knew she got in. Now she is fixated on going to RGPS.

We stay in Woodlands (proximity is defintely not a gd reason but then again, none of the GEP schs are near my place), she's from a mixed school (can't use Girls' sch as a reason). I do not know what other reasons to give.

Public transport wise, there is a bus that (961) goes to RGPS from WDL bus interchange but i think the journey is very far ... 41 bus stops. (Nanyang 45 bus stops, Nanhua i thk 30+ bus stops, the rest of the schools no direct bus from WDL). woodlands is so ulu.

My mum is dead against dd joining GEP. I explained to her that it is dd's decision (tho not her ultimate, final decision yet), aft she has been told the pros/cons and that I also pref dd to stay put in current sch (I love stauts quo, hate changes). But my mum says it's a terrible mistake to let a 'small child, who doesn't know anythg' make the decision. she say 'u all adults are very irresponsible to want to make her go thru a stressful childhood and shd help her decide to reject GEP'.

now my mum is giving me a hard time. 😢

and no, she is not taking care of dd. I am.

Was there yesterday... I think they are the only GEP school which hold Open house..
The school holiday started end of last week.. hence not much activities you'll see there this week... according to them, generally the GEP program will finish 2 weeks earlier for all the 9 schools...

Wow. That is far. Can you send yourself? Otherwise, it's a very long commute daily. Hard on your child. Maybe you'll get lucky and find a GE school with school bus that serves the Woodlands area only.
