Is River Valley is a good school? Is it very academic with lots of homework? Noticed that the % pass for Chinese is 95.5% which is below the national average of 97.3%. Are they weak in Chinese?

        hi parents…

Just received a letter from school regarding the above…
As such, wanted to know how you are preparing your child for this…
Not sure if the teachers teach the students how to actually do a
proper presentation as the assessment criteria seems quite comprehensive.
I guess the school is expecting either the parents to coach their children?

        Thoughts anyone?

For my gal who was in P1 last year, teacher would have a sample draft but i thot it would be quite boring if all the students follow that sample draft so I drafted the content for show & tell & practice with my gal. The assessment criteria then was pretty simple - be audible, eye contact & props...... of course should be in a lively tone (should not be in monotonous tone)

Now in P2, i find the show & tell more interesting.... comes in a form of \"er ge\"..... Chinese nursery songs (?)....... my gal is now more daring too, she even add in her own \"dance\" movements!! 😂

Lunch is a struggle with long queue time. She has started to pack lunch to School. However, this add on to the weight of the School bag. sigh…

yes, have heard other parents commenting on this too..........the canteen is too small to accommodate the lunch crowd......... doubt the sch has any solution for this............

Any parents here felt the increase in the bus transport costs too drastic? My monthly fees is going to be up by 28% and for CCA (ie. taking the 4pm bus) the increase is 200%.

Even though an increase in inevitable in view of rising cost of living, this is too exorbitant. They had last increased their fees in 2011 citing increasing diesel prices. An a year later, they are coming back with the same reasons. Did operating costs increased 30% year on year?

Felt that I’m being held ransom since there is no other alternative available and the operator has been with the school for as long as I could remember (ie. more than 5 years). Maybe it’s time to open up and call for public tender. Follow the procurement procedures of government agencies.
