Pressure is starting early. Some schools are teaching models earlier. My son learnt it only in P3. At P4, he was allowed to use only models for problem sums. Algebra was discouraged.
Now that I am struggling with older one, I realized we have to expose science to younger one. Explain what living and non-living things are, for eg.
For 1st kid, he/she is a 'guinea pig'...get the best but parents like myself are learning along the way...sitting for PSLE all over again too  -

But if the Sci teacher is you know who, then must find tutor liao :siam: -

U still young, can sit for PSLE with your elder boy.
I was total hands-off with my elder boy since he was P5. His PSLE had not effects on me at all. I was so lucky, right?
BUT now I am learning all abt P5 Maths and Sci
Brain cells already low in qty, still hv to struggle with these

Take care too!
Time flies, it was just like yesterday that I learnt P3 stuff from you and now he is doing PSLE. I think I heard someone told me all P6 syllabus to complete by mid year, so kids can get all ready for PSLE. Is this true? All 1 year stuff squeezes into 6 months to complete or P6 has smaller coverage of lesson plan? Just curious. -

Brain cells have never worked so hard before. Last year, I could still coach him for science. But this year, I closed his assessment book 5 sec after opening it. Don't know what happened, but just got breathless :snooze: -
IJJ:
You just said it...syllabus crammed in like sandwich. This SA1 already testing 10 math topics...so tutor is going on 5th gear. For science, left with just 2-3 topics. That's it...prelims in aug.janet_lee88:

Only 2-3 more chapters to go and it's only T2? Looks like your ds is raring to go. :rahrah:

So when he gets into one of the preferred (all boys) schools, are you gonna throw us a BBQ? :rahrah:
I vividly remember for my own PSLE exam, my old sch didn't even manage to cover all the chapters within the syllabus, let alone have time to let us practise past year/assessment papers. Sad rite?
From my experience, this led me to come to the conclusion that schools really do matter; and ds will not suffer the same fate as me. If (just in case) the sch don't teach, I'll teach.

How are we? Hmm, according to Janet, as a father of a P2 kid, I'm having a good time ...... but apparently somehow that gets into her nerves.

BBQ ? That's last thing on my mind now. He is not raring to go...but forced to. Math topics tested are no walk in the park. Getting him to drink more fluid as weather is scorching hot. Giving him Vit C and manuka alternate days.

After his PSLE, I wil plan ahead for my younger one so that she doesn't suffer the same fate as gor gor. Yes, be prepared to teach ahead. If you plan to wait till P6 to teach, it's too late.
