Hi VooVoo, Snow123 & all,
Appreciate any feedback on their P1 class please. Thanks in advance. -
Due to time constraints, my DS stopped attending. Nevertheless, I like the small group and the focus on writing.

Hi VooVoo,

Yes, he did.

Hi, my kids are with Little Inkpot since 2011. Older child is good in English, benefited alot from Ms Yan’s coachg, she got an A* in English. In fact, she continued on in her sec classes and did v well in sec sch.
Younger child is weak in English but obtained an A in English. Her essays were barely passing bef joing Ms Yan. After a few yrs with her, she managed mid-30s in her P6 essays.
Ms Yan is v good in coachg creative writing skills. She teaches the kids to develop their story v well and to write succinctly without having to resort to difficult vocabulary or convulated sentences. Her classes are not didactic in approach. There is an interchange of ideas. She will bring them out of class for discussions occasionally during the holidays. They do newsletters, pamphlets, literary discussions etc.
What I like about Ms Yan is that she marks all the essays meticulously and she makes them do redrafts. She includes her suggestions and minor editing as well. She gives them articles/short stories to read. Her classes are never boring. My daughters enjoyed her lessons v much.
I think there is a reason why Ms Yan doesn’t take in students who are too vocal. They tend to disrupt the class and she has to spend alot of time disciplining the child rather than concentrate on the lesson. She handles the class alone. I remember my daughters telling me there are students who basically spend the whole lesson arguing and talking back. Some will be v vocal and do not give others a chance to speak. It is v hard for the rest who genuinely wants to learn to concentrate.
There are some who will talk alot, never do any work and parents still expect an improvement.
In order to benefit from her class, the child needs to be teachable and a little diligent : )
