Experts in ancient Greek culture say that people back then didn’t see their thoughts as belonging to them. When ancient Greeks had a thought, it occurred to them as a god or goddess giving an order. Apollo was telling them to be brave. Athena was telling them to fall in love.

Now people hear a commercial for sour cream potato chips and rush out to buy, but now they call this free will.
At least the ancient Greeks were being honest.”

We all know that not everyone gets educated the same... different PARENTS... different schools.... different streams... different quality of education.

Do you think this 17 year old had a Mother like me?

a large compliment must go to your DD as well, other than her mother's efforts πŸ˜‰ .

We also hear of kids from broken families and poor background/education who have come good, and vice versa, ie good parents and background, kids still turn out not so guai.... So, don't take all the credit hor  Kudos to your DS and DD.
My point is your motherly love may not moved ALL kids, such change that this generation has evolved.

so the question could also be - Do you think all mothers have a 17yo like your DD ? πŸ˜“

I am also talking to my DS and DD about this situation....slowly and very carefully. Zao buay siam, coz their classmates are talking about this case as well :imanangel:

I know this generation. DD and I are close and I hear many things. Don't twist my words. I am not trying to take credit for who DD is though I would like to believe that all the years I put in did make a difference. You will tell your wife that nothing she did made a difference to the child?

          So, what are parents for?

I am happy to give credit to my child for all the good things, BUT if the child turns out badly, it is unseemly for adults like you and I to point ONLY at this 17 year old, and not at all at the adult men around her who were more than happy to teach her the ways of sex... OR try to understand her family situation, which may know nothing about at present.

Some kindness would become us, no?

I believe, part of the function of the law, is not to punish, but to provide deterrence.

Deterrence is a very powerful tool to keep law and order in a society.

Say, You dish out kindness to this woman.. and undermined the effectiveness of deterrence.. as she got away scot free. And \"some\" other young girls, seeing no \"risk\", jumps into the trade, for the $$$$ or watever. A decision they may regret later.

Are you being kind to the other naive young girls?

I say, be kind to the society. Send the right message. give the woman her due punishment. Not for the men (they don't deserve it), but for the good of the young and innocent in the society.

At 17, she was not a woman. I agree that there should be deterrence. I don't know if the law at present provides for that... but yes, there should be deterrent sentencing even for her. However, deterrent sentencing at 17 should not be the same as what is meted out to adults.

She was still a child. How do we deal with a 17 year old who cuts someone up with a parang?

Yes... IF the intent is to question the law as it is being written now, by all means do so. I write the counterpoint because I think we have gone to far in taking the law into our hands by naming and shaming her AGAINST the expressed intent of a gag order.

Charged for an offence that they were probably not aware of

I am concerned about the decision taken by the public prosecutor to charge the 44 men for having commercial sex with the the under-aged girl.

I am not defending the actions of these men. Rather, I am questioning the decision to charge them, based on the evidence that was available. According to what I read in the papers, these men were enticed by an online website that showed the girl to be 18 years old. If she was below 18 years, she must have deliberately lied about her age. Surely, she is the bigger culprit?.........

How many people are aware that childhood sexual abuse also produces 17 year olds who have scant regard for their bodies? If your 8 yr old son was raped by a Teacher, he is more likely to turn into a sex abuser in his turn 2 decades later. If your 6 year old daughter was molested (or your 10 year old raped), there is a greater likelihood that she would lead a promiscuous lifestyle in later life.

Those of us who name and shame, do WE know her history? No.

Yes, there is sin. She has sinned. The men have too. Does she deserve some benefit of the doubt? Yes. Do the men deserve some kindness? Yes. The law has provided her the anonymity of a gag order, why should we visit vigilante justice upon her?

Do we have all the facts of her young life? No.

                      D men don't deserve it? It's dat a typo?
But it is a very heavy price to pay for some thrills with an underaged pros.

I think dis high profile case has sent d msg to d men out there,
n made more aware of dis 'little known' law.
However, it is not complete without sending d right msg to SYTs aspring to enter d trade.
                      No typo.

What heavy price? the fine? or custodial sentence?

For publicity, can't blame anyone. Any crime or illegal trade \"may\" be reported, not juz vice trade. LLST lor.

for the sentence meted out by the courts, if they are \"new\" to the industry, maybe the punishment not so harsh using ignorance as mitigating factor. For those regular players.. no excuse lor..

PS: \"give the woman her due punishment. Not for the men\"

What I meant was, the woman should be punished, but not because \"she got the men into shame\". She should be punished but it is \"not to let the men taste sweet revenge\".. something along that line.

In the original post, I never intend to mean \"the men don't deserve the kindness\" or sthg along that line.. sorrie if it was read that way.

This will be what can be argued to get them off the hook.
