2009 GEP Screening And Selection

blur-daddy:
:celebrate: and :welcome:The talk last night and meeting the teachers were great for us. My kid now open somewhat to the idea of the program and I'm glad we brought him there for the session.
We spent our time mainly in HPPS as that's our option, given we don't wanna enroll our kid to SAP with NYPS and NHPS the other 2 nearest to our place. I know i know... Mrs Heng already mentioned chinese being chinese, and no lower or higher... just chinese.
But we would like our son to have time to appreciate the change and avoid too many changes in his life if possilbe... moreover, meeting the teachers there further convinced us HPPS is our only choice.
HPPS got a tour tmr morning at 8am... we look forward to it and now all depends on my son whether he like the school... if yes, we will sign up... our only option on the form.

KSP:
Because change is a constant.... kids should learn to embrace it at a uounger age.. I like NYPS because the environment is totally different from RGPS's.Why don't you let your child continue with RGPS?
If what the number 43 you said is true then that will be 43/330 = 13% got into GEP. This could easily make them the highest GEP success rate in all Pri Sch. Perhaps that is the reason why the school is so popular even it is not affiliated to the Sec Sch.
Also, I would like my kid to be multilingual... NYPS students have a strong foundation in Chinese.
Thirdly, my kid takes 4 CCAs... including gym n tennis ... RGPS does not have the right facilities but NYPS has. -
Neko:
My son is in Rosyth, no need to worry about distance... Quite a lot of them in Rosyth from North.Anyone here (or knows friends) who stays in the North (Woodlands/Sembawang/Yishun) with kids in GEP ? What school are your (their) children in ?
I am still a little put off by the distance. -

that was what the VP said during the guided tour today
How are the teachers in Rosyth like ? I met a Mr Rosse(?) today. Is the GEP workload heavy ? Will the kids hv time to relax or will homework/projects take up sizeable time ? -
Neko:
The teachers are very nice, especially Mr Grosse!! All the kids just adore him!! Surprisingly, you will find that P4 GEP is not very stressful - that was how my son felt. You may feel the pressure in P5, maybe! Ofcourse, the kids will have enough time to relax. As for my son, he learns Indian Classical music, Table and western Keyboard. He has performances at least once a month. He has cleared his swimming gold and now going for goldstar. Most of the kids have lot of ECA. So you need not worry!!that was what the VP said during the guided tour today

Wow !!! :celebrate:
I get the impression that Mr Grosse truly cares abt his students. He mentioned that he has taught GEP for 25 yrs!
dd is not thrilled abt the fact that she will hv to climb six storeys to get to her classroom ... and that students cannot take the lift. honestly, the school building looks rather old (and very hot!) but I guess having caring teachers outweighs that. -
syshi:
Not all schools.
Actually all school will have prize-giving day which give out trophies for the top 3 in class, top 10 in level and top in subject... at least that's what I know from my kids school and my sister's kids school...
my gal's previous sch (b4 changing to the current one), only present to the \"TOP in class\" no second or third and also NO TOP in subject.
the pupils are only given a $15 or $20 pop voucher, no trophies. i remembered clearly once there was a yr whereby my gal who had gotten first in class (teacher already announced to the whole class) but later the teacher said that there was a slight error due to the rounding off of the decimal when keying in to the computer system, she came in second. the teacher then send us an email to apologise for the \" error\".
so u can imagine how infuriated my gal was at that moment...........
i think it is very demoralising. schools shd have given recognition for the top 3 best pupils and also best in subjects for their hardwork. -
GepMum, does your son take the school bus ? Is yes, approx what time does the bus pick up kids from Woodlands ?

Hhmmm... means that my DD & DS current school is not bad... anyway, only trophies without the voucher... at least some recognition... sense of achievement for them...Not all schools.
