qms:
Of course you need and have the reasons to be concerned. As proposed earlier, why don't you attend Zhangde's open house first before you decide?
Are you able to explain on the uniqueness of ZDPS's character development which are not found in other schools?
I hope I'm able to observe and deduce something from their open house!
Was given the impression that the main concern/lookout for most (if not all) parents are the school's results. If not, there will not be so many people fighting for a place in the good schools.
Can anyone, whose child is already in ZDPS, give any light to this?qms:
My child is a Singaporean! Do I interpret your advice as no need to be PV?I would say the possibility of your child getting into Zhangde in P2C is very, very high, again assuming your child is a Singaporean.

That's correct. However, if time permits, you may like to consider applying as a PV. It will give you opportunities to have a better picture of the school. You may then decide whether you want to put your child in the school. Some parents do that.My child is a Singaporean! Do I interpret your advice as no need to be PV?

I was going to reply yesterday but drowsy from the cough med.
I can only share so much as DS has only been in the school for 4 months. The school emphasizes on environmental education, getting the kids to recycle (bring newspapers to school), support Earth Hour and learning about 3R. There isn't that much homework but the school actively encourages reading, which I think is very important too. DS is very happy going to school, very motivated to learn and do his work well. He has so far gone on one outing to the zoo and looking forward to another one, this time to goat farm and Qian Hu.
I do not know how all this is going to translate into academic results ie the PSLE score but I feel that the passion and joy for learning is more important at this age. There are so many years of education ahead. Why kill the interest so soon by sending your child to a school that drills endlessly just for that extra marks?
I like the school environment and ZDPS and most importantly the time saved by not taking the school bus. I shared earlier that it takes one hour by school bus for kids at the opposite block to get to Radin Mas. RVPS is slightly about 40 minutes on average. But why bother? With the extra 45 minutes a day (conservative estimate) DS can have more sleep, more rest time or more play time.
That is not to say academics are not important. Afterall they do go to school to get an education. I do not see ZDPS or most schools for that matter failing to teach the basics. As for the extras I'm prepared to teach at home or even outsource if necessary, provided I think it is within his ability.
All these are why I think ZDPS is a good choice for DS. But if the single most important consideration is results, I don't think you will make the same choice as me.
Btw the school principal has a new principal this year and by other parents' account she's doing a better job than the previous one. I don't know as I haven't even seen her yet
I would suggest you visit the open house, usually in July, before you decide. Afterall there's no harm in considering one more option. -
Thank you qms and mummy of 2 for your invaluable advices! There are really so much that parents need to assess for a school (phew!)....

Have checked their website (just revamp?), this year's open house is on 30 Jun! Can't wait to check things out!

Not forgetting that there are alot of new HDB buildings around that area (within 1km) for the past few years and also this 1-2 yrs.

Yes that's very true. Last year for phase 2c there were 30+ applicants within 1-2km and 7 or 9 (can't remember) vacancies for them. I won't be too surprised if there is balloting for within 1km for phase 2c in the near future.

If looking at ZDPS PSLE of course maybe not able to fight with RMPS. You also have to see the Principal that leads the school. Most lik :imconstipated: ely your child taking PSLE would be another principal going to take over.

And I heard there are already alot of PV signed up for the 2014 intake.

If withing 1Km, will they give based on the actual distance? E.g. the 0.3 Km will be given priority to the one staying 1Km? -
