All About Full-Time Maids

auntieM:
yes, it is around $20 for one day off. so $50 is a .............LOLMum:
i highly doubt the s$50 is suggested by the maid.
Umm...market rate $20 for one day off right.. .. :?
maybe the sum is to deter the maid from asking for a day off.
how many employers would want to give $50 per day off on top of the basic salary? it is usually $20 per day off on top of the basic salary.
so i believe this $50 is to be deducted from basic salary.
imo, even if this is wriiten into the contract, the sum deducted is too much. -
I knew it!!
As expected the agents are going to make maximum benefits from changes in regulations by the Indon authorities. The latest news is that they intend to increase agency fees for ALL maids, regardless of country of origin, to $1,000 +. -
the maids have HOME and some other foreign workers origanisations to turn to. i wish someone can set up similar organisations to help employers. forget about mom.
agencies gave wrong info about maid and we cant sue them.

POA Teacher:
Like that I rather pay my maid $500 or even $1000 bonus :moneyflies: :moneyflies: , to renew with me end of next year, then pay the agent.I knew it!!

Hard Truth:
Well, u have made yourself very clear , this girl altho brought up in a good home and gives the impression of being decent is certainly NOT. I agree with u fully.
\"Yah leh, very decent maid, 5 yrs in spore, had ceremony in a mynmar association and buddhist monk officiated her wedding. The husband is her relatives friend and they really wanted the baby even tho she was advised to abort. \"moonee:
Yah leh, very decent maid, 5 yrs in spore, had ceremony in a mynmar association and buddhist monk officiated her wedding. The husband is her relatives friend and they really wanted the baby even tho she was advised to abort. She was in love!!! She mentioned she knew her now husband for near 2 years, but got together for a year.... I have her invitation card but not too good to attend. She had like 80 guest athe ceremony. She showed me the wedding pictures.
No, employer never met or knew she had a man. Well wen it comes to matters of the heart, decent or not decent they wanted to start a family, btw shes 32 and knows what shes doing altho my relative was dissappointed and shock when she told them of her pregnany, seems like she was planning for it, so she aint that stupid. Anyway she served her employer very well all these years and looked after the house well.
Actually, the man is lucky to have her as his wife today.
All the above shows means that she is \"decent\"? Just cannot see the logic. Which parts support that? .... buddhist monk officiated her wedding? ,......she was advised to abort.??

Yes she is in love I agree but..What has this got to do with being decent?
\"No, employer never met or knew she had a man. Well wen it comes to matters of the heart, decent or not decent they wanted to start a family, btw shes 32 and knows what shes doing\"
What has this got to do with being \"decent\"? I am blurred already.
altho my relative was dissappointed and shock when she told them of her pregnany, seems like she was planning for it, so she aint that stupid.
Ahh..now we are getting somewhere. She can be described as \"deceptive\", \"not truthful\" ,even \"cunning\" ( certainly not stupid) but \"decent\"??
Anyway she served her employer very well all these years and looked after the house well.
Actually, the man is lucky to have her as his wife today.
We can call her \"efficient\", \"effective in the job\" but certainly not \"decent\". \"Descent\" would mean socially or conventionally correct; refined or virtuous. Very had to find the pregnant maid fitting into any of the traits of being \"decent\" leh..
She is downright cunning and got herself pregnant to catch her beau, not that he did not want her but she was a good catch as shes not one of those provincial maids that is unexposed after 5 years in spore .. she probably came to spore to find a husband, she has mentioned she would really like to have a family so I guess she she had it all planned.
Her ceremony is not recognised in mynmar so shes back to meet her new in laws and angry father who was equally shock at her pregnancy.
I guess one that appears so upright and serious is not DECENT, WRONG CHOICE OF WORDS!!! so u need not be so blur now and yes, cunning is a more appropriate word to describe her. I guess the ceremony with the monk and her husbands colleagues etc.. was more to cover up for her pregnancy so that her parents would not be embarressed when she goes back with child. -
BeContented:
I believe you are talking about a different behaviour. They are \"liberal\" (which is not necessarily good) and has nothing to do with \"decent\"The world has changed. If that maid only slept with her BF & married him, maybe still ok lah.
Sure the world has changed. Dnls_mum hit it on the spot \"decent girls get married before getting pregnant. Where got get pregnant then get married one.\". I think this is still the norm otherwise the definition of \"decent\" would have changed too!
Look at the youngsters these days, many are no longer virgin by 18?!?! And many are so open (in behaviour & dressing) & change BF/GF easily..... Which is worse ??

Oops! Now this maid got plenty of issues to settle when she goes back home. I feel sorry for the child and I hope back home, things can be sorted out so that the the child that she brought into this world will not have to suffer. If only they could have done it in the \"proper\" way where everyone lives happily ever after.
It is a pity as she is obviously good in her work. -

agencies gave wrong info about maid and we cant sue them.
actually got lawyer here or not.....why people cannot sue becuse agency give wrong info ........got case ..or case also like useless mom...can lawyer give some tip to aiyoh.... -
When the "lemon law" comes into effect, will employers be able to get redress against agents who make false representations about the maids eg false age, claimed can cook but cannot cook etc.

Dnls_mum's post on how the contract is written has a point
\"yes, it is around $20 for one day off. so $50 is a .............
\"
How does one compute \"market\" rate if there is one at all. The only correct rate will be one that is imposed by MOM on how day offs are to be computed if there is one.
\"maybe the sum is to deter the maid from asking for a day off.\"
Probably so and if it done correctly it may be a good idea for those who want to discourage day offs for whatsoever reason
\"how many employers would want to give $50 per day off on top of the basic salary? it is usually $20 per day off on top of the basic salary.\"
It is not a question on employers wanting to give $50 a day but a question on how it is computed in the contract (Dnls_mum's post for reference)
\"so i believe this $50 is to be deducted from basic salary.\"
No it should be deducted from total salary ($600) and not basic salary ($400)
\"imo, even if this is wriiten into the contract, the sum deducted is too much.\"
Why is the sum too much when it is in the contract and the maid could earn $600 by not taking day offs?
