Hi
5) Roy had a piece of string 3.5m long. He used 2/5 of it to tie a present and 3/7 of the remaining to tie a bundle of sticks. What was the length of the string used to tie the bundle of sticks? Is the answer correct?---->1-2/5=3/5, 3/5x3/7=9/35, 9/35x3.5=0.9 (Final answer)
1 - 2/5 ----- 3/5
3/5 * 3.5 ------ 2.1
3/7 * 2.1 ------ 0.9

\"Each piece cut from Rope Q was 2/5 longer than each piece cut from Rope P\", 2/5 is fraction or refer to 2/5 m?
If it refer to the fraction, then should be 2*(1+2/5)=2.8m -

Hi
Sorry, a bit confuse here,
\"Each piece cut from Rope Q was 2/5 longer than each piece cut from Rope P\", 2/5 is fraction or refer to 2/5 m?
If it refer to the fraction, then should be 2*(1+2/5)=2.8m
Thank you for pointing out the error.
It should be 2/5 (fraction) not 2.5m
2.8 m is the correct answer.

HTH..
Kevin spent all his money thus we can make Kevin's ratios the same in both cases.
Case 1, Jason left 1300
Jason : Kevin
2 : 1
4 : 2
Case 2, Jason left 3700
Jason : Kevin
1 : 2
3u ----- 3700 - 1300
3u = 2400
1u = 800
Jason was given 4u + 1300 (case 1)
4u + 1300 ----- 4 x $800 + $1300 = $4500
