The only problem we have is that our definition of 'trying your best' differs ....... best to put this into a picture ...... like the height difference 2nd floor and the 20th floor.
Trying to outsmart you.

Guess it depends on gender and character to be a good monitor.... I personally do not like my kids to take up the role cos they need to help teachers run around so will miss part of the lessons when they go off.... Might not have reliable friends to help keep them informed.
Last year, FT assigned him to be rep for something...son told her, \"No, not keen\". Teacher called to inform me...had to explain to her that he took on such responsibility but when he returned to classroom, homework written on board was erased and he had no time to copy from someone else as it was time to go home. The other incident was bcos he missed the lesson while helping teacher to carry books to staff room.
> http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=132084#p132084[/quote]My thinking differs slightly from you mums leh. When the time comes for our kids to venture on their own, many of their peers will have high qualification such as double degrees and so forth.
What differentiates - actually in private sector now this is already true - between colleagues will be something else more than just paper qualifications. You know, the ooomph factor - be it leadership, initiative, high EQ, maturity and others (such as the ability to endure a scolding from boss and not take it to heart - this one my son has much training from me oredi
).
I believe these traits are part inborn, part groomed during childhood of which sch-life plays a big part. I don't mind if ds loses a few marks here and there if it means he gets to be trained in these areas.

FQW, that's why men and women are wired differently
Why be penalized for helping teacher carry books to staff room and return to class only to see homework erased ? Then he would have to call classmates to ask what he missed. In my opinion, it's a waste of time. -
Mrsbongz,
You’ve pm. Left my phone in the office today so can’t SMS you. Thx. -

One useful life skill here, how to refuse additional responsibility from teacher (boss) if you really cannot cope.... :politebleah: -

My son told his teacher he will agree to be rep only if the homework written on board is not erased until the end of school day. His teacher agreed to his request.
