Does getting a platinum in SMOPS gaurantee a CO in HCI? Let's say if a child gets platinum in SMOPS but overall school result only average, let's say 75-79% for GEP student. What is the chance of getting a CO?

Think so... guess smops helps many vendors make good revenue in recent years. Heard it is quite expensive (a training package can cuase >$2K!!! ). What if those who can't afford the training? They only has PSLE no chance for DSA to HCI ....

not all who goes for smops training will get platinum, it is a matter of aptitude

not having smops does not been no chance with hci dsa - good results in all 4 subjects will get in too - no cca result to show even ....

It does not guarantee a CO in HCI but good chance. HCI has their own selection criteria. I think interview is the important factor. Ds' s classmates, one of the top GEP student in the school, was only given a waitlist offer but CO from RI 2 yrs ago.

So the boy didn't get 80% in his mid-year, passed GAT & gets RI CO? Or don't need to take GAT, with platinum & less than 80% & gets RI CO?

In fact should be way above 80% since he is one of the top boy. Should be SMOPs platinum too ( though i am not very sure on this ) Everyone cannot believe that he was only given the waitlist from HCI.

May be HCI knows that he will choose to go RI so just gave him wait list as I heard from past that wait list from HCI is as good as CO.

[/quote]But hardly anyone with platinum did not go thru training right? Even in sec school they also train potential maths Olympiad medalists but it is ok as it is to help school win medals. But if it affecting school admission at P6 like DSA and the expensive training has to be paid by parents then it is kind of unfair for those who can't afford the training.

Right. my kids' school does not provide such training. hence never even think about them dsa via Maths domain cos i know they have no chance, even though they are pretty good in math. alternatively i could have forked out lots of money to let them go for pte training .... but then, they have no time either. 🤷

there is really nothing unfair or fair

there is always someone richer than the next boy and could afford anything under the sun ....
