All these talk about what we could do differently for our P4 kids get me thinking of how I should groom DD2 who is only 9 months old. Becos of the 9 years age gap between my 2 girls, I wonder if lessons learnt with DD1 would be applicable to DD2. Frankly I have been too sleep deprived and stressed over SA1 to think about it. But think I should really start reading books to my baby as she approaches 1st birthday. One thing for sure is that we will be speaking more mandarin with her. With more emphasis on spoken Chinese, we have to expose her to mandarin early. And start Berries at an earlier age too!

what do u think of Berries 作文 for upper Pri (P4-6)? dd attending 天下 作文 now... there is a Berries near my place too and always a lot of students.... dd should be above avg for CL/HCL..... any feedback from anyone?

berries 作文 is good if the kid's standard is high already. my boy could not keep up with their standard (his 作文 standard is only berries' P2 standard!), so we dropped out and went private tuition.

do you do other stuff at home to help your dd get above avg for CL/HCL?

DD1 started Berries at K1 and enjoys the lessons every week and does well in class even though she attends the higher chinese class (school only has normal chinese). When compo was introduced at P3, she struggled and I signed her up for compo lesson at another enrichment centre nearer my place. Totally no help and wasted 2 terms. This year, we decided to bite the bullet and signed her up for Berries oral and compo class, in addition to her normal class (logistically not so ideal). Total 4 hours a week. Can see from school compos that she is improving and is more fluent in her writing. Will continue until P5 which is when Berries incorporate compo into normal chinese class and extend the timing to 3 hours each lesson.

If your DD is already attending Tien Xia, why are you thinking of switching to Berries? Should be about the same standard i thought.

He wants to have a facebook account but I told him it’s not possible unless he declares a fake age which is not right. He told me that was what his classmates did. Some of them even submitted their ages as 30+!!!

I find that at this age its not advisable for them to have a facebook account or even watch Stomp!. Some of the items at Stomp! is not suitable for children at all! I only let him watch selectively at those pixs or videos which are educational or informative.

I find Berries HCL class did put in effort to prepare kids for CL compo, however as class is only conducted once a week, time spent on compo writing is comparatively lesser than the Oral and Compo class. That's where I have to get involve to reinforce DD's learning from Berries.

Beginning of last year, we started by getting CL comics to arouse DD's interest in CL, next I expose her to cheng2 Yu4 that are relevant for compo writing, nowadays we try to communicate in chinese incorporating some cheng2 Yu4 where possible in our daily conversation. Glad that DD's fluency has since improved and we are still working on it 😂
